The Battlefield 6 campaign has nine missions, and reviewers finished it in roughly 5 to 8 hours, longer if you hunt for collectibles. It’s single-player only and you can’t play it offline: the whole game needs a permanent internet connection. Below you’ll find a comparison of length estimates, the mission order, what the story is about (spoiler-free) and how to try the campaign. Applies to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, valid as of 19 October 2026.
How long is the campaign
EA doesn’t give an official campaign length. Four outlets that finished it came up with different numbers depending on their pace and how much they collected along the way:
| Outlet | Estimated length |
|---|---|
| GameSpot | 4–5 hours (normal difficulty) |
| GamesRadar+ | 5–8 hours |
| PCGamesN | 6–7 hours |
| PC Gamer | 7–10 hours (average) |
If you head straight for the objectives, expect roughly 5 to 8 hours. If you want to explore every corner and grab the collectibles, it’ll take longer.
Why do the numbers differ so much? GameSpot gives its time on normal difficulty, while PC Gamer gives an average and notes that a higher difficulty, hunting for dog tags or exploring will change it. GamesRadar+ and PCGamesN sit in between. The longest estimate is more than twice the shortest, so treat the 5 to 8 hour range as a guide. It mostly depends on how quickly you move and how often you replay a section after dying.
What the story is about
The campaign is set in 2027. You play as Dagger 1-3, a Marine Raiders unit, up against Pax Armata, a private military corporation. The story takes you around the world:

- a landing at Gibraltar,
- fighting in Brooklyn,
- Cairo and the Sahara,
- a HALO jump,
- New York.
That’s all we’ll give away, the ending is yours to discover.
For newcomers the campaign has another upside. EA recommends playing it first, before multiplayer. It teaches you controls, movement and vehicles without live opponents breathing down your neck. What to do next is covered in our beginner’s guide.
EA’s official description is on its campaign page.

| 4 | Night Raid |
| 5 | No Sleep |
| 6 | Moving Mountains |
| 7 | Nile Guard |
| 8 | Operation Ember Strike |
| 9 | Always Forward |
Can you play the campaign offline?
No. Battlefield 6 requires a permanent internet connection and an EA account, and that applies to the whole game, campaign included. On Steam you also have to link your EA account to Steam. If you were hoping to play on the go without a connection, the campaign won’t start.
The requirements are listed on the Steam store page.
Can you play the campaign with a friend?
The campaign is single-player. Steam lists it under “Single-player”, and EA calls it a “single-player Campaign”. EA doesn’t mention co-op for the campaign. If you want to play with a friend, multiplayer is the way to go.
Collectibles
The campaign’s collectibles are dog tags. PC Gamer notes that hunting for them adds to your playtime. If you only follow the story, you’ll finish faster.
