CS2 economy guide: weapon prices, kill rewards and recent patch changes

The economy in CS2 decides what you and your team can buy each round. This guide explains how money is calculated between rounds, what the 14 weapons and items with verified prices cost, and which kill rewards each weapon type pays out. Everything applies to the current version of the game as of 19 October 2026, including the changes from the 2024 to 2026 patches.

How the round economy works

You receive money to spend at the start of every round, and how much depends on how you and your team performed. There are three basic rules:

  • Kill reward – every kill earns you money, and the amount depends on the weapon you used.
  • Loss bonus – the team that loses a round gets a bonus that grows with a losing streak. Lose several rounds in a row and you’ll have more money next round.
  • Objective rewards – for example, since 23 May 2024 the Terrorists get $600 for a bomb that was planted but defused (previously $800).

We don’t list exact loss bonus amounts, because we don’t have two current sources for CS2 that agree. The game shows you the number anyway. The buy menu displays the minimum amount of money you are guaranteed next round, and the scoreboard has a loss bonus tooltip with its current value.

The CT team award

Since 16 July 2025, CTs in Competitive modes receive a team award of $50 for every Terrorist killed in the round. They get it whether they win or lose the round. Taking down a few opponents even in a lost round helps the whole team’s next buy.

CS2 weapon prices (as of 19 October 2026)

The table only lists prices that Valve stated in patch notes, or that two independent outlets agree on with no later patch changing them.

Valve cut the M4A4 to $2,900 and the FAMAS to $1,950 on 28 January 2025 (see the patch notes). Older guides list higher prices that no longer apply. We don’t list prices for other weapons, such as the AK-47, Galil AR, AUG, SG 553, most pistols, the other grenades, Kevlar or the defuse kit, because sources disagree or only one confirms them. You can always see the current price of every weapon in the buy menu.

Kill rewards by weapon type

Kill rewards vary by weapon. We have verified amounts mainly for SMGs and shotguns, plus a few weapons Valve adjusted in the April patch of 25 April 2024.

WeaponKill reward
MAC-10, MP9, UMP-45, MP7, MP5-SD, PP-Bizon$600
P90$300
Nova, Sawed-Off, MAG-7$900
XM1014$600 (Casual $300)
CZ75-Auto$300 (Casual $150)
Zeus$100 (Casual $50)

We don’t list rewards for the AWP, knife, HE grenade or most rifles and pistols, since verified sources don’t agree on them.

What patches changed in the economy

Valve keeps tuning the economy. These are official changes from the patch notes that apply as of 19 October 2026:

  • 25 April 2024 – new kill rewards: Zeus $100, CZ75-Auto $300, XM1014 $600 (half that in Casual). The buy menu started showing the guaranteed minimum for next round.
  • 23 May 2024 – Incendiary Grenade at $500, the reward for a planted but defused bomb dropped to $600, and a loss bonus tooltip was added to the scoreboard.
  • 28 January 2025 – M4A4 cut to $2,900, FAMAS to $1,950.
  • 16 July 2025 – CT team award of $50 for each Terrorist killed.
  • 21 January 2026 – MP7 and MP5-SD slightly stronger and $100 cheaper, PP-Bizon $100 cheaper.
  • 18 March 2026 – reloading now discards the whole magazine, including any rounds left in it. Most weapons carry three spare magazines.
  • 8 October 2026 – the AUG reloads half a second faster.
