Yes, Diablo IV is cross-platform. It has crossplay and cross-progression, so you can team up with a friend on console while you’re on PC and take your characters from one platform to another. The catch lies in your Battle.net account, your realm and what you buy where. This guide explains how it works, where couch co-op is available and what Game Pass gives you, as of 19 October 2026.
Crossplay: who you can play with
Diablo IV is available on PC (Battle.net and Steam), PlayStation and Xbox, and Blizzard lists crossplay and cross-progression across platforms. A Steam player can join a friend on Xbox or PlayStation in the same party.
The game is always online. Even solo you need an internet connection and a Battle.net account. For co-op that means nobody hosts a server or shares a save. You simply form a party in game.
Since Vessel of Hatred there’s also a Party Finder that matches you with other players based on the activity you want to do. Handy when your friends aren’t online. And as a rule, you level faster in a group than on your own.
Cross-progression: it all hangs on Battle.net
Your progress isn’t saved to your PlayStation or Xbox account but to your Battle.net account. For your characters to follow you between platforms, you have to sign in with the same Battle.net account everywhere. Link a different account on console than on PC and you’ll see a completely different set of characters.
Purchases don’t carry over. The Lord of Hatred expansion is bought per platform, for example twice for Xbox and Battle.net, and buying it more than once gives no extra rewards. Prices are covered in our editions and price guide.
Seasonal and Eternal: play in the same realm
This is where co-op most often gets stuck. Diablo IV has two separate worlds:
- Seasonal realm – fresh characters for the current season.
- Eternal realm – permanent characters outside the season.
You can only play with a friend when you’re both in the same realm. If you have a seasonal character and they’re on Eternal, you can’t group up, and one of you has to create a character in the other realm. Some content, such as The Tower and the leaderboards, only exists on the Seasonal realm. Our seasons explained guide covers how seasons work.
Be careful with Hardcore, too. Character death is permanent there, and Hardcore isn’t recommended on an unstable connection. The game is online only, so your connection matters more than in an offline game.
Couch co-op: console only
Local play on one screen, couch co-op, is only available on consoles. The PC version doesn’t have it. Blizzard lists it for the Standard Edition on Xbox.
The nice part is that your PC progress works in couch co-op on console. Visit a friend, sign in with your own Battle.net account and you play your own character.
What to play as a group
You can play the campaign and the endgame solo or in a group. Vessel of Hatred added the Dark Citadel, a cooperative endgame dungeon built for groups. Other activities such as Nightmare Dungeons, Helltide and The Pit are covered in our endgame guide.

If you’re not sure your PC can handle the game, check the system requirements.
Diablo IV on Game Pass
The base game of Diablo IV is in the Game Pass catalogue. On PC it’s listed as “Diablo IV PC”, on console as “Diablo IV – Standard Edition” (checked on the Czech market on 19 October 2026). Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred are not in the catalogue, so you have to buy them to play the Spiritborn, Paladin or Warlock.
PC Game Pass also includes older entries: Diablo, Diablo II: Resurrected and Diablo III: Reaper of Souls.
If you’re after subscriber cosmetics: in September 2026, Game Pass members received a cosmetic bundle through My Benefits. Details and requirements are in our news story on the 57 free cosmetics. Blizzard hasn’t said how long the offer runs.
Quick checklist before you play together
- Everyone is signed in with their own Battle.net account, the same one on every platform.
- Everyone has a character in the same realm (Seasonal or Eternal).
- Anyone who wants the new classes or regions owns the right expansion on their platform.
- Hardcore only with a stable connection.
