Diablo IV runs on fairly old PC hardware, but not without an SSD and an internet connection. This guide lists the minimum and recommended PC specs from Steam, how much space the game takes, how it runs on Steam Deck, which consoles you can play it on and where things stand with GeForce NOW. Accurate as of 19 October 2026 for the base game and both expansions.
Minimum and recommended PC requirements
Blizzard lists two specs on Steam. The minimum targets 1080p output with a 720p render resolution, low settings and 30 fps. The recommended spec handles 1080p, medium settings and 60 fps.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| OS | 64-bit Windows 10 version 1909 or newer | 64-bit Windows 10 version 1909 or newer |
| CPU | Intel Core i5-2500K / AMD FX-8350 | Intel Core i5-4670K / AMD Ryzen 1300X |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 / Intel Arc A380 / AMD Radeon R9 280 | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 / Intel Arc A750 / AMD Radeon RX 470 |
| DirectX | version 12 | version 12 |
| Network | broadband connection | broadband connection |
| Storage | 90 GB, SSD required | 90 GB, SSD required |
| Target | 1080p / 720p render, low, 30 fps | 1080p, medium, 60 fps |
The difference between the two specs is mainly memory and graphics. With 8 GB of RAM and a minimum-spec card, expect low settings and 30 fps. For 60 fps at medium settings, Blizzard recommends 16 GB of RAM and a card on the level of a GTX 970, Arc A750 or RX 470. The operating system, DirectX version and storage are the same in both.
Install size and why you need an SSD
The game takes 90 GB, and Blizzard states for both specs that an SSD is required. A traditional hard drive is therefore not officially supported. If your SSD is small, Diablo will take a big chunk of it, so leave some room for updates.

Internet and Battle.net account
Diablo IV is always online. You need an internet connection and a Battle.net account even when you play completely solo. There is no offline mode.
On PC you can buy it on Battle.net or Steam. The Steam version is Windows only, with no Mac or Linux build. You need a Battle.net account on Steam as well, because that’s where your characters live. It’s also what makes cross-progression work, as explained in our crossplay and co-op guide.
You can play with mouse and keyboard or a controller. Steam lists full controller support.
Diablo IV on Steam Deck
Valve rates Diablo IV as Verified on Steam Deck. Valve’s report has two notes:
- Single-player gameplay requires an active internet connection, so no playing on a train without signal.
- External controllers aren’t supported as the primary player’s controller.
On other SteamOS devices, Valve lists the game as Playable. Blizzard supports the Deck as well: patch 3.2.1 fixed the screen reader specifically on Steam Deck.
Consoles: PlayStation, Xbox and Switch 2
Besides PC, you can play Diablo IV on PlayStation and Xbox. Since 15 September 2026 it’s also on Nintendo Switch 2, where it launched as the Age of Hatred Collection with the base game and both expansions. Prices and edition contents are in our editions and price guide.
GeForce NOW and cloud gaming
Diablo IV is not in the official GeForce NOW games list as of 19 October 2026. You can’t stream it through GeForce NOW, even if you own it on Steam or Battle.net. How cloud gaming works in general is explained in our cloud gaming explainer.
Before you buy
- Make sure you have 90 GB free on an SSD.
- Compare your graphics card and CPU with the table above, and aim for the recommended spec if you want 60 fps.
- Plan for a constant internet connection.
- Check which languages the game supports.
