Augmentations are the endgame layer of Chapter 3 in Dune: Awakening: a real power boost for weapons and armor in exchange for lower maximum durability. The system ties together testing stations, Landsraad missions and your crafting tree all at once, which is why it looks impenetrable from the outside. Here is the whole loop in order.
The whole loop in one table
| Step | What you do | Where |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Find augmentation schematics | Challenge Mode testing stations |
| 2 | Get Schematic Patterns (tiers 1–5) | the same stations; the tier depends on the difficulty you clear |
| 3 | Collect House Scrip | Landsraad missions, Recollection Rewards |
| 4 | Buy Offworld Regis Compound | Landsraad Crafting Vendor, 550 scrip each |
| 5 | Convert it into Regis Components | Advanced Survival Fabricator, 10 per craft |
| 6 | Craft the augmentation | Advanced Weapons or Garment Fabricator |
| 7 | Apply it to your gear | Augmentation Station |
Requirement: you need Plastanium
This is late-game content and the gate is hard. Augments can only be applied to Plastanium-tier (MK6) items, and the Augmentation Station itself is a building of the same tier, costing a large amount of Plastanium ingots plus Spice Melange and other materials.
Below that tier there’s nothing to work with; the schematics will just sit in your inventory. The dampened sandcrawler treads, which eat 93 Spice Melange, are also Plastanium tier.
Schematics drop from Challenge Mode
Augmentation blueprints drop from testing stations in Challenge Mode, which you reach through the Overland Map and can play on difficulty 1 to 100.
The key detail: according to available information, reward quality caps out around level 40. Above that, only the difficulty goes up, not the reward ceiling, so climbing higher is showing off, not farming.
One schematic, one craft
The rule that costs people the most: each blueprint crafts exactly one augmentation. Treat every schematic as a single-use ticket. Burning one early on an average roll is a decision you can’t undo, so it pays to wait until your gear can make the most of the result. Before you grind for schematics, check out the fan-made Dune: Awakening merch at the GamersTogether shop – t-shirts, posters and mugs for Arrakis fans.
- Advanced Weapons Fabricator: augments for melee and ranged weapons.
- Advanced Garment Fabricator: augments for armor.
Slots are unlocked by specialization, not by gear
Owning an augment doesn’t mean you can apply it. The item needs a free augmentation slot, and those are unlocked in the specialization crafting tree. If your build isn’t set up for it, the augment will have to wait.
Materials by the numbers
- Schematic Patterns: tiers 1 to 5 from Challenge Mode stations, with the tier depending on the difficulty you clear.
- Regis Components: converted from Offworld Regis Compound in the Advanced Survival Fabricator, 10 per craft.
- House Scrip: 1,000 per Recollection Reward, up to five extra per day, and you can stockpile up to 35.
At 550 scrip per compound and ten components per craft, one Regis Component works out to 55 House Scrip. That number is what makes planning augmentations possible in the first place.
What to tackle first
- Get to Plastanium. Until then, everything else is theory.
- Build the Augmentation Station before you start crafting augments, otherwise they’ll just sit around unused.
- Level up your crafting specialization so your gear has slots ready.
- Stockpile Recollection Rewards up to thirty-five and buy compounds in one go.
- Spend schematics late, on gear you intend to keep.
FAQ
The item’s maximum durability. The power boost is real, but so is the trade-off, which is why augments belong on gear you’ve already committed to.
No. One schematic means one craft, so it’s a permanent decision every time.
The item has no free slot. Slots come from the specialization crafting tree, not from the item’s tier itself.
Around level 40, reward quality stops improving. Above that you’re buying difficulty, not better schematics.
It depends on the tier: tier 1 costs 5 Regis Components, tier 2 costs 6, and it keeps rising from there.
