Where you can play GTA today
For the other games we only list the release year. We have verified details on where these are sold:
- GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas as The Definitive Edition: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. They have been on Steam since 19 January 2023.
- GTA IV as The Complete Edition, on Steam since 24 March 2020 for €19.99 (euro store price). It includes both episodes, The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony.
- GTA V comes in two PC versions, Legacy (the original 2015 PC release) and Enhanced (since 4 March 2025, €29.99). PC owners of GTA V got Enhanced for free. On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, GTA V launched on 15 March 2022.
- GTA VI launches on 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only; a PC version has not been announced.
Language-wise, GTA V on Steam supports English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Korean, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Chinese and Japanese.
Where to start
You do not have to begin in 1997. Pick based on what you want from the series:
You want the newest game and to play with others
Start with GTA V. It is the latest numbered entry, Rockstar supports it on PC in both the Legacy and the new Enhanced version, and Enhanced adds ray tracing, DLSS and FSR. GTA Online is included too. Whether your PC can run it is covered in GTA 5 requirements.

You want to get ready for GTA 6
GTA 6 returns to Vice City, this time in the state of Leonida. The Vice City name is also on GTA: Vice City from 2002, which you can play today in the Definitive Edition. Before you start, grab the Vice City cheats. What Rockstar has confirmed about the new game is in our GTA 6 guide.
You want the 3D-era classics
Go for the trilogy: GTA III (2001), Vice City (2002) and San Andreas (2004), in the order they came out. On PC you type cheats in the remaster as phrases on the keyboard; the full San Andreas list is in our San Andreas cheats.

You want GTA IV with the episodes
The Complete Edition for €19.99 bundles the base game and both episodes. GTA IV cheats are entered through the in-game phone; the numbers are in GTA 4 cheats.
Is the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition worth it?
We do not quote review scores here because we have not verified them. You can still decide based on the facts:
- Price: on Steam the trilogy sells as a bundle for €59.99. The alternative is the GTA+ subscription at €7.99 a month, which includes the trilogy games and GTA V Story Mode.
- Requirements: the minimum is an Intel Core i5-6600K or AMD FX-6300, 8 GB RAM and a GTX 760 or Radeon R9 280. Disk space: GTA III 5 GB, Vice City 10 GB, San Andreas 19 GB.
- Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
- Cheats: some cheats from the original games are missing from the remaster; Rockstar spoke of “a couple of cheats” removed for technical reasons. On Xbox the triggers are also swapped.
- Steam achievements: GTA III 29, Vice City 34, San Andreas 35.
That leads to simple maths. If you only want to play through the trilogy over a few weeks, one month of GTA+ at €7.99 is cheaper than the €59.99 bundle, and you get GTA V Story Mode on top. If you want to own the games and come back to them, the bundle makes more sense. Prices are Steam prices as of 19 October 2026.
