Honor in League of Legends reflects how you behave in the game and around it. There are five levels, everyone starts at level 3, and it matters more than it looks: without Honor 3 you don’t get end-of-season ranked rewards, and low Honor limits your chat and pings. This guide covers what each level unlocks, how to earn Honor, what makes it drop and how to get it back after a penalty. Everything applies as of 20 October 2026.
How Honor works
According to Riot’s Honor guide, Honor has levels 1 to 5, and every player starts at level 3. Since patch 25.04 it no longer resets with a new season, so whatever you build up stays with you. Taking a break from the game doesn’t lower your Honor.
Honor is not the same thing as your rank or MMR. Your rank shows how high you are in ranked (see our LoL ranks guide), and the hidden matchmaking rating is explained in our MMR guide. Honor rates how you treat other players.
What each Honor level unlocks
Your Honor level decides which chats you can use, how many pings and emotes you can send within 5 seconds before the game temporarily blocks you, and which rewards you get.
| Level | Chat | Pings per 5 s | Emotes per 5 s | Rewards and perks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Honor 1 | team and party chat | 2 | 2 | no Honor Objective points |
| Honor 2 | plus champ select and post-game chat | 4 | 2 | no Honor Objective points |
| Honor 3 | plus All Chat | 6 | 3 | end-of-season ranked rewards, BXP drops, 1 point per minute played |
| Honor 4 | all chats | 7 | 4 | more frequent BXP drops, 2 points per minute played |
| Honor 5 | all chats | 7 | 5 | special recall, Honor skins, Targeted Ally Pings, more frequent BXP drops, 10 points per minute played |
All Chat is the chat with the whole game, opponents included. Targeted Ally Pings, pings aimed at a specific teammate, are only available at Honor 5. BXP drops are bonus battle pass XP.
Honor 3 and ranked rewards
You only get end-of-season ranked rewards at Honor 3 or higher. That includes the Victorious skin, which Riot has handed out since Season 1 of 2025 for 15 ranked wins (Solo/Duo, Flex or a mix of both) regardless of rank. If you finish below Honor 3, neither the skin nor the other ranked rewards arrive. For more on seasons and rewards, see our ranked guide.
How to earn Honor
The main way is the post-game vote. After a match you can honor teammates and opponents, one vote per player, and a vote can’t be taken back. Other players honor you the same way. Positive chat and good communication raise your Honor too.

How many votes you have:
- +1 vote for every match,
- +1 vote if you were honored in your previous match,
- +1 vote if you’re at Honor 5,
- unused votes carry over, up to a maximum of 4.
Honoring a friend from your premade group raises their Honor as well. There’s no shortcut to higher Honor: play fairly, communicate with your team and hand out your votes after each match.
Honor Objectives and Hextech chests
Each Act has two Honor Objectives. Each one takes 1,200 points and gives you 50 BXP, a Hextech Chest and a key. You earn points for every minute played, but only in League of Legends PvP matches:
- Honor 5: 10 points per minute,
- Honor 4: 2 points per minute,
- Honor 3: 1 point per minute,
- Honor 1 and 2: nothing.
That makes Honor 5 five times faster than Honor 4. What can drop from a Hextech chest is covered in our guide to Hextech chests.
How Honor drops and how to get it back
Your Honor goes down in two cases:
- you stop playing honorably, in which case you can drop from level 4 or higher to 3 (the client warns you first),
- you receive an active penalty.
After a penalty you get Honor Restrictions, which you clear by playing a set number of games without being reported. Once you complete them, you’re back to at least Honor 3. Riot explains this on its Honor Restrictions page.
Honor and server transfers
If you move your account to another server, your Honor comes with you. How transfers work and what they cost is covered in our servers and language guide. Any leftover Honor 5 tokens were converted into 1,050 Orange Essence in patch 25.06.
Honor and Team Voice
On 8 September 2026 Riot announced that being able to speak in voice chat with your whole team (Team Voice) will be tied to Honor. Team Voice launches with patch 26.20 only in North America and Oceania. Riot hasn’t announced anything for Europe (EUNE and EUW) yet. How to coordinate without voice is explained in our pings and chat guide.
