The Finals best settings for more FPS: what to turn on and off

Want more FPS out of The Finals on PC? Here are Embark Studios’ official tips and the six settings two independent outlets, PCGamesN and GamesRadar+, agree on. Everything is current as of 20 October 2026, the launch of Season 12. We do not recommend specific graphics presets or “ideal” FPS numbers, because the sources disagree on them and every PC is different.

First, find out where the problem is

Embark support recommends turning on the “Detailed” In-Game Performance Overlay under Video → Advanced. It shows you right in the game how your PC is coping. The warning icons in the top right of a match help too. The Client Performance icon turns yellow below 45 FPS and red below 30 FPS. The Shader Stutter icon flags stuttering caused by shaders.

If the icons point to Packet Loss or High Latency instead, the problem is your connection, not your graphics. The fixes are in our guide to errors and anti-cheat.

What Embark recommends for low FPS

  • Close demanding programs running in the background.
  • Update your graphics drivers.
  • Lower shadow, texture and effects quality.
  • Keep an eye on overheating.
  • Play in Fullscreen instead of Windowed or Borderless.

Settings the outlets agree on

The table only lists settings that PCGamesN and GamesRadar+ both recommend. For the window mode, Embark agrees as well.

DLSS, FSR and frame generation

The Finals supports NVIDIA DLSS, including Frame Generation, and AMD FSR. Since Update 10.3.0, FSR 4 is the default upscaler, and FSR 2 and FSR 3 are supported as well.

One thing to watch: turning on DLSS or FSR Frame Generation requires a game restart. That has been the case since Update 9.9.0. Without a restart, the change does not take effect.

Shaders and stutter

When the game starts, you will see “Preloading Shaders 0–100%”. The game prepares its shaders in advance so matches stutter less. After the first launch, a game or driver update, or a graphics change, this can take several minutes. Let it finish and you will have less stutter in matches.

Quick Settings in Season 12

According to the patch notes 12.0, Season 12 added a Quick Settings tab to the menu. You can put the options you change most often there, such as volume, graphics quality or sensitivity. The crosshair also has its own tab now, and the HUD can be scaled and set to an ultrawide aspect ratio. Everything else the season brought is covered in our Season 12 overview.

When settings are not enough

If your FPS is still too low after tweaking, compare your PC with the game’s requirements. The minimum according to Steam and Embark is an Intel Core i5-6600K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600, 12 GB RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 580. The recommended setup is an Intel Core i5-9600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600, 16 GB RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT. The full overview is in our system requirements guide.

On consoles, one change stands out: since Update 10.3.0, PS5 Pro supports the PSSR 2 upscaler, and the PlayStation Store lists the game as “PS5 Pro Enhanced”.

Avoid NVIDIA Profile Inspector

Some guides suggest tuning The Finals with NVIDIA Profile Inspector. The anti-cheat blocks it, and the game then shows a TFAV error ending in 018. The same goes for AutoHotkey and similar tools. Stick to the in-game settings.
