To take out a tank, a helicopter or an enemy FOB in WARDOGS you mainly need the Support tree. By level 5 you unlock C4 with a detonator and the RPG-7 launcher, later the anti-air Verba, the anti-tank MAAWS and anti-tank mines. In this article you will find what destroys what, how much the weapons cost and when they unlock as of Season 1, how to deal with armored vehicles and helicopters, what applies to an enemy FOB (a forward operating base) and why destroying things pays off.
Why destroy vehicles and structures
The game pays you for destroying enemy vehicles and structures and gives you XP toward the Support tree. For vehicles the reward is higher inside the Control Zone and higher still in the Hot Zone, meaning inside the contested control zone and inside its smaller moving part with a double reward.
Every player is advised to get the Support tree to level 5 as soon as possible. At that point you can unlock both C4 with a detonator and the RPG-7.
Rocket launchers and the grenade launcher
The prices and levels are valid as of 15 September 2026 for Season 1. The developers change the unlock order every season. A dash means the figure has not been reliably confirmed yet.
| Weapon | Price per life | Unlock | What for |
|---|---|---|---|
| RPG-7 | $2,000 | Support 5 · $30,000 | unguided rockets |
| 9K333 Verba | $800 | Support 16 · $50,000 | anti-air missile, you have to lock the target before firing, single use |
| MAAWS | $2,600 | Support 20 · $125,000 | anti-tank, reusable |
| MGL-40 | $6,000 | Support 35 · $200,000 | revolver grenade launcher |
The RPG-7 is recommended as the best launcher to start with, because it unlocks early. MAAWS is the anti-tank weapon you get to later. Verba is the only anti-air one among them. You will find the other weapons in the overview of weapons and their prices.
Explosives and mines
| Item | Unlock | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Improvised Explosive Device (IED) | – | improvised charge |
| C4 Charge | Support, level 5 at the latest | needs a Remote Detonator |
| Remote Detonator | Support, level 5 at the latest | sets off C4 |
| AT Mine | Support 25 | anti-tank mine |
You cannot set off C4 without the Remote Detonator, but you unlock both by Support 5 at the latest. You unlock the AT Mine anti-tank mine at Support 25. The per-life prices of explosives change between seasons, you can see the current ones at the in-game vendor.
How to deal with tanks and armored vehicles
Since Season 1 the Heavy Tank unlocks in the Driver tree at level 35 and the SPH-2 artillery tank in Career at level 90 for $500,000. Both tanks have a three-man crew. An overview of all vehicles is in the article about vehicles.
Against armor you have these options:
- MAAWS (Support 20) as a dedicated anti-tank launcher.
- RPG-7 (Support 5) as the cheaper option available earlier.
- AT Mine (Support 25), the anti-tank mine.
- Stingray: a buildable launcher for kamikaze drones designed against armored vehicles.
How structures including the Stingray are built and supplied is covered in the guide to building and the FOB.
For regular weapons there is also AP ammo, which does more damage to armor and vehicles. It unlocks late in Career, though, for example 7.62×54 AP at level 82 and 5.56 AP at level 83.
Why destroy the enemy APC
Every team gets an M113 APC armored transport that serves as a mobile spawn. It appears at the bases as soon as one of the teams collects 20 points. When an enemy parks it near the zone, their whole team spawns on it, but only for as long as the APC is standing.
Destroying an enemy APC helps your team and pays very well on top of that. How the APC fits into the fight for the zone is explained in the article about the Control Zone.
How to deal with helicopters
The anti-air weapon for an infantryman is the 9K333 Verba from the Support tree at level 16. Before you fire you have to lock the target, and the missile is single use, so every shot costs you $800. Count on the pilot possibly having flares. When they spot an incoming missile, they pop them to lead it away.
Helicopters are also threatened by buildable anti-air defenses at a FOB. Your opponent can also field attack helicopters, for example the Havoc with a cannon and rockets, which unlocks at Pilot 35. How flying and helicopters work from the pilot’s point of view is in the guide to helicopters.
What applies to an enemy FOB
A FOB (Forward Operating Base) is a forward base that a team builds on the map. It creates an area where you can build and it serves as storage for items and supplies. Built walls, doors and gates can stand around it.
- Locked doors can be pried open with the Halligan Bar, which also gets you into an enemy FOB.
- C4 charges are worth having in your backpack when you need to break into a FOB.
- Indirect fire from a mortar or an artillery tank lets you attack the enemy from a distance. You build a mortar with the Large Hammer (Support 8) from supplies. Aiming is covered in detail in the guide to artillery.
For destroyed enemy structures you get XP toward the Support tree and money, just like for vehicles.
What can be destroyed
According to the official game description, apartment blocks can be destroyed with rocket launchers and a tank can smash its way through cities. Enemy vehicles and structures including a FOB can be destroyed too. Exactly how much of a building on the map can be brought down is not specified in the official description.
