You can temporarily deactivate your Roblox account or delete it for good. You can also change your username and display name, and recover a forgotten password or username. This guide walks you through each of these, explains the difference between deactivating and deleting, and tells you what to do if someone steals your account. Information as of 19 October 2026.
Deactivate or delete?
Before you start, decide what you actually want. Deactivation can be undone, deletion cannot.

How to deactivate your account
- Open Settings. On a computer it is the gear icon in the top right, on mobile tap More in the bottom right.
- Go to Privacy.
- Select Account data, deactivation & deletion.
- Choose Deactivate and confirm.
If you change your mind, log in at roblox.com and the account comes back.
How to delete your account
- Open Settings > Privacy > Account data, deactivation & deletion.
- Choose Delete.
- Roblox will ask you to verify your identity. The account must have a verified email.

A child’s account
A parent or the child can deactivate a child’s account in the child’s account settings, under Settings > Privacy & content maturity. How to link a parent account and what else you can manage is covered in our parental controls guide.
How to change your name
Roblox has two names: the Username and the Display name. They differ in cost and in how often you can change them.

To change a name:
- Open Settings > Account Info.
- Click the pencil icon next to the name you want to change.
- Enter the new name and confirm. Username changes are paid in Robux.
Support describes the username rules in its article on Xbox error 901: a username has 3 to 20 characters, uses only letters A–Z and numbers 0–9, and has at most one underscore, which cannot be at the start or the end. More on that error is in our Roblox error codes guide.
Forgotten password or username
- On the login page, click Forgot Password or Username?
- Choose whether you are recovering a password or a username.
- Enter the email address or phone number linked to the account.
- For a password you get a link by email or a 6-digit code by phone. For a username you get a list of names linked to that email or phone.
Without an email and a phone number, a password reset does not work and you have to contact support. A forgotten username cannot be recovered without an email, a phone number or any purchase. That is why it pays to add an email you can access to a child’s account.
What to do if your account is stolen
- Remove malware and suspicious browser extensions from your computer.
- Change your password.
- Turn on two-step verification in Settings > Security. Roblox recommends an authenticator app.
- If a password reset does not help, contact support from the first email address added to the account, or from the email used for the first payment.
You must ask for help within 30 days. Roblox may not restore lost items. Trades and deals made outside the official system are not enforced or restored by Roblox.
How to avoid account theft
The most common trap is a “free Robux” offer. Free Robux generators do not exist, and every such offer is a scam designed to steal your account. Roblox explains this in its article Free Robux or Subscription Generators. The same goes for offers of free subscriptions or valuable items.
