AION 2: Morheim and Eltnen regions

AION 2: Morheim and Eltnen regions

Morheim and Eltnen are two regions that the Chapter 1 update of 1 July 2026 brought to AION 2, so far only on the Korean and Taiwanese servers. Eltnen belongs to the Elyos, Morheim to the Asmodians, and both cover the level range from 45 to 50. You know the names from the original AION from 2009, but the maps, quests and content are new.

Before you read on, one crucial point: it is not confirmed that Chapter 1 will reach the global version right at launch. The global version opens on 30 September 2026 in early access for Founder’s Pack owners and on 5 October 2026 for free for everyone, on PC only. NCSOFT still hasn’t said what content it will launch with. This whole article therefore describes the Korean and Taiwanese version. It may be a picture of what awaits you on day one, or of what only arrives in a later update.

And one trap waiting in search results: if a search for Morheim shows you a sentence saying the region was removed from the game, that information belongs to the original AION from 2009. In AION 2 it is exactly the opposite: Chapter 1 added it. We break down the differences between the two games in detail in our comparison of AION Classic and AION 2.

The key facts in five points

  • Eltnen is for the Elyos, Morheim for the Asmodians. It isn’t a choice. The region is determined by the faction you picked at the start of the game, and you normally can’t get into the other one.
  • You get in through a teleport portal that opens in your home territory once you finish the main quests in Verteron (Elyos) or Altgard (Asmodians).
  • Inside you’ll find new zones, sealed dungeons, strongholds, Monoliths, field bosses and legion bases, plus materials for the new Pendant slot.
  • In the game data, both regions are split into a Chapter 1 section and a Chapter 2 section. So the second half isn’t speculation; it just isn’t open yet.
  • They are different maps from the original AION, even though they share the names. And everything below describes the Korean and Taiwanese version.

Morheim and Eltnen in AION 2 versus the original AION

The names are the same, the maps are not. This is the most common question people ask about the topic. The thread “Opinion about Morheim/Eltnen” with the sub-question “Are Morheim/Eltnen the same?” holds the top spot in search results. The answer is no. The name, the faction and the rough character of the landscape match, nothing else.

Watch out for results about the 2009 game. Search for Morheim in AION 2 today and the first page shows a wiki for the original game with a snippet saying “Morheim was removed from the game” and that Beluslan took over its role. That’s true, for the game from 2009. It doesn’t apply to AION 2 even remotely. On the same results page you’ll also find an article from 17 December 2009 and a map database labeled “Aion Classic”.

In the original AION, Morheim was a volcanic area on the western side of the Asmodae continent and served as a starting region for Asmodian characters; Eltnen was its Elyos counterpart. In AION 2 they are nowhere near starting regions. Elyos start in Poeta and Verteron, Asmodians in Ishalgen and Altgard. Morheim and Eltnen only come as the last stretch of the road to max level.

Community criticism belongs here too. In the thread mentioned above, players say that in the original AION a region felt like part of a bigger whole, while the maps in AION 2 feel more isolated. The snippet is cut off mid-sentence and the discussion can’t be loaded automatically, so take it as the opinion of some players, not as a verified conclusion.

AION 2 map: where Morheim and Eltnen are

The world of AION 2 has two faction branches with a floating PvP zone between them. The Elyos branch runs from Poeta through Verteron to Eltnen, the Asmodian one from Ishalgen through Altgard to Morheim. Outside both lies the Abyss, Reshanta: a separate area with its own rules, covered in the article on the Abyss and PvP zones.

In AION 2, a region is a large area of the world containing several smaller zones. The following table is the only place where you’ll find the zones of both new regions together; other sources split them across two separate pages.

To find your way around inside the regions, use interactive maps. They are tools, not articles, and for this topic they do a job text can’t: one of them lists more than 40,000 markers across Verteron, Altgard, Eltnen and Morheim. You’ll find links to them in the tools box below the article.

A special note for anyone looking for maps through a search engine: the most-cited wiki only has Verteron, Altgard and the Abyss in its interactive map section. You won’t find Eltnen or Morheim there at all; nobody has updated it since January 2026. The fastest way to cross the large regions is by air, which the article on wings and flying covers.

How to get to Morheim and Eltnen

A teleport portal takes you there, and it opens once you finish the main quests in your home territory. Elyos get it in Verteron, Asmodians in Altgard. The portal appears right in the territory, so you don’t have to hunt for it, but you do have to meet the requirements to use it.

  1. Finish the main story campaign in Verteron (Elyos) or Altgard (Asmodians).
  2. Reach Gear Score 1000, the overall rating of your gear’s strength.
  3. Clear Krao Cave on normal difficulty; it’s a group dungeon, see the dungeon overview.
  4. Use the portal that opens in your territory. Entry requires meeting thresholds for character level, item level and Combat Power.

NCSOFT hasn’t published the exact numbers for those three thresholds. They are neither in the press release nor in the patch notes. Item level is an overall rating of your gear’s strength, Combat Power an overall rating of your whole character’s strength. That the thresholds exist is documented; how high they are set is not.

The story framing of that journey is worth a mention: the entry quests are called “To Eltnen” and “To Morheim” and they are preceded by a quest named “Waiting for the Next Journey”. The game literally sends you off on a journey to the next region. How to play through the whole 45 to 50 range as fast as possible is covered in the leveling guide.

Eltnen: the Elyos region

Eltnen is a region of desert and ruins that follows Verteron and covers levels 46 to 50. It’s a dry landscape with ruined buildings, observatories and a canyon: exactly the part of the update’s official name, Chapter 1. Lands of Sand and Snow, that talks about sand.

Settlements and landmarks you’ll come across in the region:

  • Tsenka Merchants Office and Tsenka Village: the region’s trading hub.
  • Eiron Refugee Camp, Lacephin Village, Ruins Survey Campsite: camps and settlements.
  • Hakran Laboratory, Ruined Laboratory, Chloris’s Secret Base: laboratories and hideouts.
  • Mystic Spring Observatory and the Eltnen Observatory Ruins.
  • Fractured Land, Garden of the Illusion God, Ardus Shrine: locations of the main storyline.

Eltnen’s storyline leads to the Illusion God and Ardus Shrine and culminates in the quest “The Twisted Fatewalker” at level 50. Along the way you’ll meet the NPCs Moru (a Shugo merchant), Nania, Caelid, Chloris, Phernos, Tiasiris, Hakran, Luteros, Soru, Vartus and Paitos. The connections between the Empyrean Lords and the Chapter 1 story are covered in the article on the story and lore of AION 2.

For the record: Eltnen in AION 2 shares nothing more than the name and faction with the Elyos starting area from the 2009 game. If you’re looking for old quests or old NPCs there, you’ll look in vain. Before you head back to Morheim or Eltnen, check out the AION 2 merch at the GamersTogether shop.

Morheim: the Asmodian region

Morheim is a snowy and volcanic region that follows Altgard and covers levels 46 to 50. Snow and lava side by side on one map are no accident: they are the second half of the update’s official name, Chapter 1. Lands of Sand and Snow. Eltnen is the sand, Morheim is the snow, and with it the Muspel volcano.

Morheim’s settlements and landmarks:

  • Patamor Village, Patamor Plains Outpost, Hunter’s Hideout: the main settlements of the northern part.
  • Frostwind Forward Base, Ashen Outpost, Searcher Campsite: bases and camps.
  • Destroyed Fafnium Site, Burned Village: remnants of destruction.
  • Coastal Cave Entrance, First Fragment Cave, Second Fragment Cave: the cave system.
  • Floating Temple of Arkanis and Muspel Volcano Zone: the volcanic part of the region.

The most interesting thing about Morheim is where its story leads. Three quests at levels 47 to 49 take place on Kromede’s Island, and the final quest at level 50 is called “Head toward the Fire Temple”. Fire Temple is an iconic dungeon from the original AION, which NCSOFT itself presents as a reimagining of the classic. So Morheim connects the new content with a legend from 2009, and that’s official, not our own theory.

The region’s key NPCs are Nemon, Gottfried, Adelina, Zebas, Netra, Eyrin and, of course, Kromede. As in Eltnen, the campaign culminates in the quest “The Twisted Fatewalker” at level 50, so both factions converge on the same story point, just from opposite sides of the world. Who Kromede is gets covered in the article on story and lore.

What you can do in the new regions

Both regions offer the same set of activities. Alongside the quest line there are five types of content, and one of them, Monoliths, is new and can’t be found anywhere else in the game.

  • Sealed Dungeons: short solo instances marked with a question mark on the map. They are a source of Daevanion points.
  • Garrisons and strongholds: open-world locations that you capture.
  • Monoliths: pillars you activate by collecting items called Empyrean Lord’s Traces scattered around the region. Their resonance raises the Monolith’s level, and level-ups reward you with Amulet of Revelation Enhancement Scrolls, which upgrade a Unique-grade amulet at +10 enhancement to Heroic. It’s a separate progression loop tied to the region; how to continue from there is covered in the article on enchanting your gear.
  • Field bosses: big open-world enemies with their own portraits and exclusive gear. Chapter 1 changed the rewards: now every contributor gets a chest, not just the top one. Inside is a Unique-grade Attunement Stone Fragment, gear and the boss’s “Afterimage of the Masterpiece”, which lets you claim its portrait.
  • Legion Hideouts: legion bases, in other words guild bases. They are now in Eltnen and Morheim too, the rental status is shared per region, and portals connect hideouts of the same legion. How to found and run a legion is covered in the article on legions and guilds.

Quests in both regions provide materials for the new Pendant slot, specifically Rare and Heritage grade pendants and their enhancement materials. There’s also a new pet and new headgear accessories. The resources you gather along the way can be processed; what to do with them is covered in the crafting and professions guide.

A practical shortcut nobody mentions: Daeva Express. It’s an item that instantly clears unfinished Garrisons and sealed dungeons in the region, or collects all Empyrean Lord’s Traces. If you don’t have time to travel the map a second time, it will save you an evening.

A complete breakdown of everything the update brought, including outside these two regions, is in the Chapter 1 patch notes summary.

Sealed dungeons and Garrisons in the new regions are only part of what you can play in AION 2, though. A complete overview of instances, from solo challenges to ten-player raids, is in a separate article on dungeons.

Chapter 2 is already in the data (and what hasn’t arrived yet)

In the game data, both regions are split into a Chapter 1 section and a Chapter 2 section, which unlock gradually. So the second half of both maps is neither speculation nor community wishful thinking. It’s a documented fact about the region’s structure. It just isn’t open yet.

A supporting detail from the data: both regions contain a quest placed at level 51 called “Waiting for the Next Journey”, meaning roughly “wait for the day you set off to the next region”. It doesn’t mean the level cap will rise to 51. It’s just more evidence that a continuation is planned.

The January 2026 livestream also mentioned the names Elysium and Pandemonium. Neither has arrived yet. In the original AION they were the capital cities of the two factions, so it makes sense to expect them as cities rather than hunting regions, but that’s our interpretation, not confirmed information.

What exactly Chapter 2 will contain is outside the scope of this article. The roadmap, planned locations and the pace at which NCSOFT rolls out content belong in a separate article about what NCSOFT is planning next.

Will Morheim and Eltnen be in the global version?

NCSOFT hasn’t said so anywhere. This isn’t a detail we failed to track down; it’s information the publisher hasn’t released yet. We also checked the pre-launch FAQ from the developer account on Steam, and it doesn’t cover the content of individual updates at all.

Here’s what is certain so far: early access starts on 30 September 2026 for Founder’s Pack owners and the full free-to-play launch for everyone is on 5 October 2026, on PC only. The details on both dates are summed up in the article on the release date.

In practice there are two possible scenarios, and both are realistic. Either the global version launches with content matching the first season, meaning without Eltnen and Morheim and with a level cap of 45, and gets Chapter 1 later. Or it launches with Chapter 1 straight away. Other sites allow for both, and none of them has evidence for either scenario.

It will be settled on 30 September 2026, when early access opens: the first thing you’ll see is the world map. We’ll go through this article on both dates and add which regions are actually in the global client. What Morheim and Eltnen look like live on the Taiwanese server is described in our first impressions from playing.

FAQ

Are Morheim and Eltnen in AION 2 the same as in the original AION?

No. The name, faction and rough character of the landscape match, but the maps and content don’t. In the original AION from 2009 they were starting regions, and Morheim was removed from the game in update 6.0. In AION 2, the Chapter 1 update of 1 July 2026 added them instead, as regions for levels 45 to 50.

How do I get to Eltnen or Morheim?

Through a teleport portal that opens in your home territory after you finish the main campaign: in Verteron for the Elyos, in Altgard for the Asmodians. Before the portal you also need Gear Score 1000 and to clear the Krao Cave dungeon on normal difficulty. Using the portal requires meeting thresholds for character level, item level and Combat Power; NCSOFT hasn’t published the exact numbers.

Which region belongs to which faction?

Eltnen belongs to the Elyos, Morheim to the Asmodians. It isn’t a choice: the region is determined by the faction you picked at the start of the game, and that choice is permanent. You can’t get into the other faction’s region the normal way. Why the faction choice matters so much in AION 2 and everything it affects is covered in the article on the Elyos and Asmodian factions.

What can you do in the new regions?

Besides the quest line for levels 46 to 50, both regions have sealed dungeons, Garrisons, Monoliths, field bosses and legion bases. Monoliths are new: you collect Empyrean Lord’s Traces around the region, and raising the Monolith’s level rewards you with a scroll for upgrading your amulet. The quests also provide materials for the new Pendant slot.

Will more zones come to Morheim and Eltnen?

Yes, that’s planned. In the game data, both regions are split into a Chapter 1 section and a Chapter 2 section, and the second one isn’t open yet. Supporting evidence is a level 51 quest called “Waiting for the Next Journey”. NCSOFT hasn’t published what exactly Chapter 2 will bring, so keep an eye on the roadmap.

What are Elysium and Pandemonium?

They are two names NCSOFT mentioned during the January 2026 livestream and hasn’t delivered yet. In the original AION they were the capital cities of the Elyos and the Asmodians, so they will likely be cities in AION 2 as well, but that isn’t confirmed. They are not part of Chapter 1, nor of Eltnen and Morheim.

Will Morheim and Eltnen be in the global version?

It isn’t confirmed. Both regions come from the Chapter 1 update, released on 1 July 2026 on the Korean and Taiwanese servers. NCSOFT hasn’t said anywhere what content the global version will launch with, and the pre-launch FAQ on Steam doesn’t cover the topic. We’ll know on 30 September 2026, when early access opens.

For now, Morheim and Eltnen are only in the Korean and Taiwanese version, where they have been live since 1 July 2026, and both still have an unopened Chapter 2 section in the game data. That’s why we’ll go through this overview again after 30 September and after 5 October 2026 and add what is actually available in the global client. You’ll find all other guides for the game in the AION 2 guides section. Information verified as of 15 August 2026.
