The AION 2 release date is confirmed, but it’s made up of two dates. The global version launches on 5 October 2026 and is free for everyone. If you buy a Founder’s Pack, you get into the game five days earlier, on 30 September 2026.
AION 2 is an MMORPG from NCSOFT and a direct sequel to AION from 2009. This article is about the sequel, not the original game. In Korea and Taiwan, AION 2 has been live since 19 November 2025. The global version for Europe and North America will run on PC only, through Steam and the PURPLE launcher (NCSOFT’s own game client, similar to Steam). No PS5 and no Xbox.
The key facts in five points
- 5 October 2026: full free-to-play launch for everyone. 30 September 2026: early access for Founder’s Pack owners (Standard €21.25 / Deluxe €42.49 / Ultimate €84.99; all three give the same five-day head start and differ only in cosmetics).
- The game launches on PC only (Steam + PURPLE). Neither a mobile nor a console version has been confirmed for the West.
- In Korea and Taiwan, AION 2 has been running since November 2025, which is why you see both 2025 and 2026 mentioned for the game.
- NCSOFT publishes it directly (through NC America). The original AION was published in Europe in 2009 by Codemasters, and Gameforge only took it over on 28 February 2012. Neither of them has anything to do with AION 2.
- The game is free-to-play. There’s also an optional membership for $15 a month that unlocks the auction house, the currency exchange and a subscriber shop. You can play without it.
When exactly does AION 2 launch globally?
AION 2 launches globally on 5 October 2026 and is free. If you buy a Founder’s Pack, you can play from 30 September 2026. Both dates are confirmed on the game’s official Steam page (app ID 3393110), and several other sources list them independently.
The difference is simple: 30 September is advance access, a paid head start. Servers open only to accounts that have bought a Founder’s Pack. On 5 October the game opens to everyone else, and from then on it’s a free download. It’s not a beta or a test phase: you keep your progress from early access.
NCSOFT arrived at these dates step by step, which explains why so many different dates are floating around online:

One thing on Steam will confuse you: the “Release Date” field on the game’s main page still shows only “September 2026”. That’s an inconsistency on Steam itself, not a conflict between dates, since the Deluxe and Ultimate pack pages list 5 October 2026 in the same field. The unofficial speculation about an earlier September date that circulated in the spring didn’t pan out.

European release and EU servers
Europe is one of four confirmed server regions for the global launch. NCSOFT lists North America, South America, Europe and Asia; the June wording “Asia” replaced the older April wording, which referred specifically to Japan. Specific data center cities haven’t been announced yet. NCSOFT also handles Europe itself, without a local partner. Our article on who is behind AION 2 sums up the background. For many players, another detail matters just as much: which languages the game supports. NCSOFT has confirmed ten localizations:

- Korean
English and German are both on the list. If your language isn’t one of the ten, you’ll have to play in one of them, and that’s also the language you’ll need for quests, skill descriptions and coordinating with your group. Where and how to get AION 2: Steam vs the PURPLE launcher
There are two official channels and only two: Steam (app ID 3393110) and the PURPLE launcher, which is NCSOFT’s own game client. The game itself will be a free download from 5 October, and since July 2026 you’ve been able to buy three Founder’s Packs through both channels.

What about pre-registration? There’s currently no formal global pre-registration portal, and sources disagree on this too: the official Japanese page talks about open pre-registration, while other sources claim the opposite. Two things you can actually do:
- Add AION 2 to your Steam wishlist. You’ll get a notification the moment the game launches.
- Sign up for the newsletter at aion2.plaync.com. According to NCSOFT’s press release from 5 June 2026, you’ll get the companion pet Pagati and the option to pick one more. The rewards can only be claimed at launch.
Which platforms? (And why not PS5/Xbox)
The global version of AION 2 launches only on Windows PC, through Steam and PURPLE. No console version for PS5 or Xbox has been confirmed, and neither has a mobile client for the West: mobile exists exclusively for the Korean and Taiwanese version. NCSOFT’s developer account on Steam puts it plainly: the global version is being developed exclusively for PC.

How much will AION 2 cost and is it F2P?
The game is free-to-play: you download it for free and you can play it for free. NCSOFT’s official notice on the business model from 8 July 2026 confirms this. At the same time, there’s an optional membership for $15 a month that unlocks the Market (auction house), the exchange between the Kinah and Quna currencies, and a subscriber shop. What isn’t true is the claim that AION 2 is a subscription game: you can play without paying. While you count down to AION 2’s release, fill the wait with limited AION 2 merch from the GamersTogether shop.
Don’t be misled by the USD 24.99 price that shows up next to AION 2 in search results either: that’s not the price of the game, it’s the price of the Standard Founder’s Pack. The “no loot boxes” promise comes from a developer video from 25 June 2026, not from the July notice, which doesn’t mention random mechanics at all. What to do if you don’t want to wait until 30 September
Some players are already getting into AION 2 via the Taiwanese server using connection optimizers such as ExitLag or GearUP Booster. One more note on the last row, since it’s the most common source of confusion: the global version launches with eight classes: Templar, Gladiator, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric and Chanter. The ninth class, Brawler, arrived in the Korean and Taiwanese version with the Chapter 1 update on 1 July 2026.
