The backbone of leveling in AION 2 is the main story line: yellow quests give most of the experience and on their own will take you all the way to the maximum level. Side content doesn’t give as much experience, but it gives points for the Daevanion system, and those make your character genuinely stronger. The maximum level in the global version is 45. The Korean and Taiwanese version has had a cap of 50 since the Chapter 1 update of 1 July 2026. This leveling guide covers AION 2, not the original AION from 2009. The numbers 65 and 75 that a search engine shows you when you look up the max level belong to that older game.
Which version the numbers refer to: the global version opened in early access on 30 September 2026 for Founder’s Pack owners and has been free for everyone since 5 October 2026, on PC only. Its level cap is 45. The Korean and Taiwanese version has been running since 19 November 2025 and got Chapter 1 in July 2026. Unless stated otherwise, the specific values below come from the Korean and Taiwanese version.
Five-point summary
- The main story is the fastest way up. Yellow quests give most of the experience; everything else is a supplement.
- Side content still pays off: sealed dungeons, strongholds and green quests give Daevanion points, and those make your character stronger than levels alone.
- You can put side content off without losing anything. It scales with your character’s level, so nothing goes to waste if you come back to it later.
- Always upgrade your weapon first. When you find a better piece, you can pull all the inserted stones back out of the old one, so you can’t mess it up.
- If you get stuck on a boss, don’t force your way through the story. Go finish some side content, upgrade your weapon and come back stronger.
What is the max level in AION 2
In the global version, the maximum level is 45. In the Korean and Taiwanese version, it is 50. Until 1 July 2026 it was 45; the Chapter 1. Lands of Sand and Snow update raised the cap by five levels and added a whole new region with them. The community and some other websites call the update “Land of Sand and Frost”. That form is inaccurate but widespread, so we mention it here so you can find it under that name too.
Watch out for the numbers a search engine shows you. If you search for the AION 2 max level today, Google serves a wiki for the original AION from 2009 saying the cap is 65, plus forum threads from 2015 about 75 and 100. None of those numbers apply to AION 2. It’s the same trap we describe in our comparison of AION Classic and AION 2: two different games with the same name and completely different numbers.
The second trap is even sneakier: for a “level cap” query, Google sometimes pulls in a completely different game with a 2 in its title. If a guide on how to reach level 40 pops up in the results, you’re not reading about AION 2.
The global version launched with a level cap of 45, so the 50 applies only to the Korean and Taiwanese servers. We go through what that means in a separate section at the end of the article. For a full breakdown of what Chapter 1 brought, see the Chapter 1 patch notes summary.
How leveling in AION 2 works: the main story is the backbone
Most of the experience comes from the yellow quests of the main story line. If you want to hit max level as soon as possible, you do practically only those and come back to the rest only when you need to. The game also auto-runs you to the quest objective, so travel never holds you up.
You can tell content apart by its color and its marker on the map. This is all the orientation you need in the first few hours:
| Content type | Marker | How much experience | What else it gives |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main story | Yellow | The most, main source | Progress through the world, access to new areas |
| Side story | Green | Less | Daevanion points, materials, gear |
| Sealed dungeons and strongholds | Question mark on the map | Little | Daevanion points, gear upgrade stones |
| Gathering materials along the way | Objects in the landscape | Negligible | Materials for crafting and upgrading |
Now a decision rule that no other guide spells out clearly: side content scales with your character’s level. You lose nothing by skipping it and coming back at a higher level, because the rewards scale up to match. That’s why it’s perfectly fine to rush the story and return to side quests, sealed dungeons and strongholds only once you hit a wall.
A sealed dungeon is a small solo instance marked with a question mark on the map; a stronghold (called a Garrison elsewhere) is a spot in the open world that you capture. Neither is mandatory while leveling. For a full breakdown of instances by type, see the dungeon overview.
One fresh change that older guides don’t have: the 1 July 2026 patch added teleports straight into some quests in Poeta, Verteron, Ishalgen and Altgard, and made episodic and regional quests in Verteron and Altgard easier. Leveling today is faster than guides written in November 2025 describe it, and those make up the vast majority of search results.
How long does it all take? A Polish gaming site puts it at roughly three days for a regular player and one day for someone who plays intensively. Treat that as a rough community estimate: it refers to the level 45 cap and the game before the July simplifications, so it will be different today.
Level bands 1 to 50 in one table
Other guides spread this overview across ten separate pages. Here it is all in one place. The table describes the Korean and Taiwanese version after Chapter 1; treat the band boundaries as approximate, since the game doesn’t list them like this anywhere. In the global version, leveling ends at 45, so the last row doesn’t apply there.
| Band | Where it takes place | What comes in it |
|---|---|---|
| 1–10 | Starting areas: Poeta (Elyos), Ishalgen (Asmodians) | Combat basics and ascension to Daeva at level 5 or 6 respectively |
| 10–25 | Verteron (Elyos), Altgard (Asmodians) | The story picks up pace, first sealed dungeons and strongholds, start of the Stigma system |
| 25–40 | Further areas of both factions | Group content, Daevanion boards in full swing, first serious gear upgrading |
| 40–45 | Krao Cave and surroundings | The first hard wall: entering Krao Cave takes strong enough gear, not just a high enough level |
| 45–50 | Eltnen (Elyos), Morheim (Asmodians) | Chapter 1 content: Pendant slot, two new Arcana slots, Stigma up to level 25, one Advanced Stigma Shard per level |
Gear Score is a single number summing up the strength of your gear. Around level 40 it changes how progression works: it stops being about how many levels you have and starts being about whether you have enough Gear Score. We cover this in detail below.
Daevanion: the real source of power while leveling
Daevanion is a board system of nodes that you spend points earned from side content on. Nodes give stats such as stamina, defense, critical hit resistance and attack, and above all they raise the levels of your skills. Points drop from green quests, sealed dungeons and strongholds, which is exactly the content you can postpone.
The equation is simple: the story gives levels, side content gives power. If you run only yellow quests, you’ll reach max level with a noticeably weaker character than someone who collected Daevanion points along the way. It isn’t a choice between speed and power; it’s a choice about when you do it.
On the boards, tell apart two kinds of glyphs: blue ones raise the levels of active skills, the ones you press, and green ones raise passive skills, the ones that work on their own. Chapter 1 added some nice extras: a “learn all nodes” option, a shortest-path search to a specific node, expansions of several boards and free board resets.
A terminology trap: one of the highest-rated English guides consistently calls this system “Deviant”. That’s a machine-translation error from Korean. The correct name is Daevanion, derived from the word Daeva, and even that is a name that meant something different in the original AION from 2009 than it does here. What ascension to Daeva involves in AION 2 is explained in our article on ascending to Daeva; it’s the first real leveling milestone and comes as early as level 5 for Elyos and level 6 for Asmodians.
A deeper look at how skills get stronger from there doesn’t belong here; that’s covered by the Stigma system guide. Here you only need to know why side content is worth doing at all.
Skills while leveling: where to put your points
Points only raise a skill to level 10. No further: from skill level 11 on, you need Daevanion, Arcana or gear. That’s the limit everyone runs into sooner or later.
Something else matters more, though: the effect thresholds are at levels 8, 12 and 16 and change how a skill behaves in a big way, for example by letting you cast it while moving, or by making it heal you based on the damage you deal. That’s why it pays to concentrate your points in a few skills instead of spreading them evenly. In practice, three skills at level 12 are stronger than six at level six.
Experimenting costs nothing: skill resets are free and available at any time. Feel free to rebuild your character around whatever you’re currently up against.
In the Korean and Taiwanese version, you get one Advanced Stigma Shard for every level-up from character level 45, the material used to raise Stigma skills above level 20. So leveling and Stigma aren’t two separate things: among other things, your last five levels fund advanced skill upgrades. How many slots your character has and when they unlock is covered elsewhere; sources disagree on it, and there’s no point settling it for them here.
Which playstyle suits you depends mainly on which combat mode you turn on. The difference between action and classic targeting is described in our article on the combat system, and picking a character based on what you enjoy is covered in the class overview.
Gear while leveling: the weapon always comes first
Upgrade your weapon; the rest can wait. The weapon gives the biggest jump in damage, and damage decides whether you get past a boss or spend an hour on it. You open the upgrade window with the N key; you pay with upgrade stones and the Kina currency.
The best news in this whole article: you can’t ruin an upgrade. When you find a better piece of gear, you extract the upgrade from the old one and get all the invested stones back. The only thing you spend permanently is Kina, and that’s cheap at low levels. So there’s no reason to “save stones for a proper weapon”: put them into the one you have now.
Accessories like belts or amulets use different materials and aren’t a priority while leveling. The riskier part of upgrading, going past the level where success is no longer guaranteed, belongs in a separate guide on upgrading gear. How Kina behaves during play and why you never have enough of it is covered in our article on Kina and the in-game economy; players of the original AION know it better as “Kinah”.
Gather crafting materials along the way whenever you see them: it costs nothing and comes in handy later. Take your time choosing a profession, though: the points you get for professions aren’t enough for everything, so it’s a choice, not a collection. What you can craft in AION 2 and which profession suits whom is covered in the crafting guide.
Stuck on a story boss?
According to other guides and to forum discussions, this is the most common real problem while leveling, and for players in Europe, ping makes it worse. Five steps, in the order you should try them:
- Use scrolls. Five-minute buffs to combat and movement speed. Saving them “for later” only slows your progress down; this is later.
- Go finish some side content and come back with extra Daevanion points. Your character gets stronger than one level would make it.
- Upgrade your weapon. Of all the slots, it gives the biggest immediate jump in damage, and the stones can be pulled back out at any time.
- Stop pressing everything that’s off cooldown. Learn the pattern the boss repeats and attack in the safe windows between its attacks.
- Dodge earlier. Dodging gives invincibility frames, a moment when nothing hits you even if you’re standing inside a marked danger zone. With high ping, you have to start the dodge ahead of time.
One more thing that often breaks solo fights: animation locks. You can’t dodge during a long spell animation or a heavy attack. That’s why the “cast while moving” effect, unlocked at skill thresholds, is so valuable on key skills: it changes how many of the boss’s attacks you can survive at all.
European context you won’t find in any guide: ping from Czechia to the Taiwanese server sits around 200 ms. That noticeably shortens the reaction window and turns timed dodges into a lottery, especially against bosses with short attack telegraphs. Anyone playing on Asian servers is fighting an objectively harder game than the Korean player next to them. The global version has its own Europe region, so players from Europe no longer have to connect to Asia.
Our article on the combat system explains exactly how dodging, stamina and attacks from behind work. Food and drinks are cheap extra help: one of the other guides recommends a salad that raises block, defense and stamina regeneration, and it’s worth it before a tough solo fight.
Level 45 to 50: Eltnen and Morheim
This whole band exists only in the Korean and Taiwanese version. It came with Chapter 1 in July 2026 and it’s the only place where you can play through levels 45 to 50; the game offers no other route. The global version has a level cap of 45, so this band isn’t part of leveling there.
Here’s how you get there: finish the campaign in Verteron (Elyos) or Altgard (Asmodians), go through Krao Cave, and a teleport portal to the new region opens in your faction’s territory. Using it requires meeting thresholds for character level, item level and Combat Power. On your way to the next level, don’t lose your style outside the game either – the GamersTogether shop has AION 2 merch waiting.
Elyos go to Eltnen, Asmodians to Morheim. It isn’t a choice; it’s decided by the faction you picked at the start of the game. This band also unlocks a Pendant slot and two new Arcana slots, and Stigma can be raised up to level 25.
What exactly is in those regions (zones, the quest line, content, where everything is) is covered in a separate article on the Morheim and Eltnen regions. Here it’s only about their role in progression. And watch out for one thing: a search for Morheim still shows the snippet “Morheim was removed from the game” from the wiki for the original AION from 2009. That sentence doesn’t apply to AION 2.
What to do once you’re at max level
Progression flips from levels to Gear Score and item level. You stop collecting experience and start collecting gear, and from that point on, what holds you back isn’t time but access to content that drops better pieces.
- Group instances such as Expedition, Transcendence and ten-player raids: the main source of gear, see the dungeon overview.
- Solo content on Nightmare and Awakening difficulty for those who don’t want to wait for a group.
- Player versus player fights in the main PvP zone, covered in our article on the Abyss.
- Upgrading what you already have: from max level on, this is the main way your character keeps growing.
For new and returning players, Chapter 1 added a badge valid for thirty days that gives combat bonuses and extra energy to teammates, plus four support packages. It isn’t confirmed whether the global version will get anything similar.
Will the global version have a max level of 50?
No. The global version has a level cap of 45. Early access opened on 30 September 2026 for Founder’s Pack owners, and the game has been free for everyone since 5 October 2026.
That is the same cap the Korean and Taiwanese version had before Chapter 1. The 45 to 50 band with Eltnen and Morheim described above isn’t part of leveling in the global version.
NCSOFT hasn’t announced any level cap increase for the global version. If you’re leveling on the global servers, everything in this guide up to level 45 is the part that applies to you.
Details on the dates are in our article on the release date, and what early access included is in the Founder’s Pack overview.
A side note: the game data contains a quest placed at level 51 with a description along the lines of “wait for the day of departure to the next region”. That doesn’t mean the cap will rise to 51; it only shows that a continuation is planned.

FAQ
In the global version, the maximum level is 45. In the Korean and Taiwanese version it is 50; until 1 July 2026 it was 45 there as well, and the Chapter 1 update raised the cap. If a search engine shows you 65 or 75, those numbers belong to the original AION from 2009, not AION 2.
Follow the main story line, meaning the yellow quests: they give most of the experience and take you all the way to max level. Do side content only when you get stuck. It scales with your character’s level, so you lose nothing by putting it off. Before bosses, use scrolls and upgrade your weapon.
They’re worth it, but later is fine. Side quests, sealed dungeons and strongholds give Daevanion points, which make your character stronger than levels alone. But because side content scales with your level, nothing goes to waste if you skip it and come back once you run into an enemy that’s too strong.
Roughly three days for a regular player and about a day for someone who plays intensively. That’s a community estimate from a single source for the Korean and Taiwanese version, and it refers to the level 45 cap and to the game before the July simplifications that added teleports to quests.
Don’t brute-force it. Use scrolls, go get Daevanion points from side content, upgrade your weapon and come back. In the fight itself, stop pressing everything that’s off cooldown, learn the boss’s pattern and dodge ahead of time: dodging gives invincibility frames, but with high ping you have to start it earlier.
Not while leveling. When you find a better piece, you extract the upgrade from the old one and get all the inserted stones back; the only thing you spend permanently is Kina. So there’s no reason to save stones for a later weapon. Riskier upgrading at higher tiers is covered in a separate article on upgrading gear.
No. The global version, free for everyone since 5 October 2026, has a level cap of 45. Level 50 applies only to the Korean and Taiwanese version after Chapter 1. NCSOFT hasn’t announced any level cap increase for the global version.
On a topic where the level cap differs between versions and moved during the year, the date stamp matters more than anywhere else. You’ll find all our other guides to the game in the AION 2 guides section. Information verified as of 7 October 2026.
