The global version of AION 2 is coming to PC only, launching on 5 October 2026 through Steam and the PURPLE launcher. No PS5 or Xbox version has been announced, and while a mobile client does exist, it is only available in Korea and Taiwan. This platform overview covers AION 2, not the original AION from 2009.
If you’ve run into conflicting information, there’s a good reason for it. Two separate services run under the AION 2 name: the Asian one since 19 November 2025 and the global one from 5 October 2026. Most articles online don’t tell them apart, and as we show below, neither does Google.
The key facts in five points
- The global version of AION 2 is coming to PC only on Windows, through two stores: Steam and the PURPLE launcher (NCSOFT’s own game client, similar to Steam).
- No consoles. PlayStation 5, Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2 have not been announced for any region, not even for Korea, where the game has been live since November 2025.
- Mobile is an Asian exclusive. NCSOFT wrote that the global version is being developed exclusively for PC platforms.
- The confusion comes from the fact that the Korean and Taiwanese versions run on PC and mobile at the same time, and search engines merge both services into a single entry.
- Early access starts on 30 September 2026 for Founder’s Pack owners (a paid bundle that gives you a five-day head start), and the full free-to-play launch for everyone is on 5 October 2026.
What platforms is AION 2 on? The quick answer
The global version of AION 2 is coming to Windows PC only, through Steam and PURPLE. Neither consoles nor mobile are confirmed for the West. The table below splits the two versions of the game into separate columns, because mixing them up is behind almost every mistake about platforms.

Steam lists neither Mac nor Linux for the game. As for the Steam Deck, NCSOFT hasn’t published any compatibility rating, so for now it remains unconfirmed.
Is AION 2 coming to PS5 or Xbox?
No. AION 2 is not coming to PlayStation 5 or Xbox, or at least nothing of the sort has been announced. Three verifiable facts back this up.
- A console version hasn’t been announced for any region. Not even for Korea and Taiwan, where the game has been live since November 2025. So this isn’t a case of “the West gets less”. There are no consoles anywhere.
- The game’s official Steam page lists Windows only. A console release date doesn’t exist, not even as a rough window.
- NCSOFT doesn’t mention consoles in any press release. Quite the opposite: the one from 21 April 2026 says the global AION 2 is “built specifically for PC”.
There is one caveat, though: NCSOFT has never explicitly ruled out a console version. The accurate way to put it is “not announced”, not “never coming”.
Where the console version rumors came from
The rumor has two documented sources, and both can be pinpointed.
The first is the Fextralife wiki. Its summary of a Korean livestream from October 2025 still carries the bullet point “Console releases have been confirmed for the future”. The page sits around eighth place in Czech search results, but it was last updated on 9 January 2026, and NCSOFT has never officially repeated anything like it.
The second is the gaming site Massively OP, which writes about “confirmed plans for a console release” for AION 2. It doesn’t cite a source for that claim, and it contradicts NCSOFT’s official materials. That’s why we don’t repeat either claim.
On top of that, two things get mixed up. Controller support on mobile: the Korean client supports gamepads, and YouTube has videos with titles like “native console controller support”. Players read that as “native console version”, even though it means a controller connected to a phone. And Unreal Engine 5 is technically multiplatform, so part of the community automatically assumes a console port. The engine, however, says nothing about the publisher’s plans.
Let’s settle the follow-up question right away: will you be able to play AION 2 on PC with a controller? Unconfirmed. NCSOFT said the game is playable with a controller, but that it is still evaluating whether full controller support will be ready for launch. This has nothing to do with a console version. Will AION 2 be on mobile? Only in Asia
A mobile version of AION 2 exists and it’s the full game, but only for Korea and Taiwan. No mobile client has been announced for the global version.
What mobile offers in Asia. It isn’t a stripped-down companion app, but the full version of the game with the same content and cross-play (playing across devices on one account). A player can play on their phone in the morning and on their PC in the evening, on the same character.
What NCSOFT said about the West. In the pre-launch FAQ on Steam, the developer account writes word for word: “The global version is currently being developed exclusively for PC platforms.” The press release from 21 April 2026 confirms it with the phrase “the Aion 2 global version is built specifically for PC”.
Why it’s this way. The global version isn’t a port of the Asian game, but a separately built native PC client. According to the Czech site Spite, NCSOFT removed features tied to mobile controls (auto-combat and auto-pathing) and added manual dodging, skill chaining, 4K textures and DLSS 4 support.
Will mobile come to the West later? We don’t know. NCSOFT used the word currently and hasn’t ruled the option out anywhere. There is no date or promise, though. We track what NCSOFT has in the works in the AION 2 roadmap.

Why there is so much confusion about AION 2 platforms
The confusion has four sources, and you can check each one yourself.
- Even Google gets it wrong. In the knowledge panel for the query “AION 2”, it shows “Platforms: Android, Microsoft Windows” and “Initial release date: 18 November 2025”. Those are details of the Korean and Taiwanese version presented as facts about the game in general, and readers trust them more than any article because they see them right in the search engine.
- You can find the game on Google Play in Czechia. The AION2 app from NCSOFT is available there and ranks first for queries about the mobile version. But it’s the Asian app for the Asian servers.
- A large share of the articles in search results is outdated. Several sites still claim that AION 2 won’t be on Steam at all, or that it launches on 18 November 2025. That was true for the Asian release, but neither applies to the global one. And the update date says nothing about how current the content is: one of those articles is dated June 2026 but its content is from winter 2025.
- Two dates, two versions, one name. The Asian service has been running since 19 November 2025, and the global one starts on 5 October 2026. They are separate servers and separate builds of the game, and most articles don’t say which one they mean. The “18 versus 19 November” discrepancy is just a time zone difference, not two releases.
Steam or PURPLE? Two routes to the same game
The global version has two official stores and a single game client: Steam (app ID 3393110) and NCSOFT’s PURPLE launcher. It’s the same game, the same servers and the same players. The store you pick has no effect on performance or content.
The only practical difference is administrative: a Founder’s Pack bought on Steam doesn’t work on the PURPLE launcher, and vice versa. So choose your store before you pay. You’ll find the breakdown of pack contents, upgrade rules and refunds in our article on Early Access and Founder’s Packs.
For most players, Steam makes sense, but PURPLE is a fully fledged free alternative. Whichever platform you play on, the GamersTogether shop has limited AION 2 merch for you.
Cross-play and cross-region: who can play with whom
Cross-play means playing across devices on one account. In the West there will be nothing to connect, because only the PC version exists. Players from Steam and from PURPLE, however, share the same servers and play together without restrictions.
Cross-region means playing on a server in another part of the world. Servers will run in four regions: North America, South America, Europe and Asia. Players in Europe should play on the European servers. NCSOFT hasn’t said whether or how playing across regions will work.
One more thing: the global and Asian servers are completely separate. If you play on the Taiwanese server today, you won’t be able to transfer your character on 5 October.
What you need to run AION 2
Three figures from the game’s official page are what matter: 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, 8 GB RAM and a GTX 1050 Ti as the minimum, and 100 GB of free space. That last number surprises people the most, and it is official.
