Apex Legends maps and modes: current rotation and what to play

Apex Legends has six official battle royale maps, but only some of them are playable at any given time. As of 20 October 2026, in Split 2 of Season 30 (Marked), the rotation is World’s Edge, Olympus and Broken Moon. This guide lists every map, explains how often they switch in pubs and in Ranked, and breaks down how Core, Wildcard, Mixtape and the other modes differ, so you know what to queue for.

The six Apex Legends maps at a glance

EA’s official map pages focus on the story behind each location rather than gameplay stats such as size or number of points of interest. So the table below simply tells you what each place is.

Kings Canyonthe first home of the Apex Games, a former IMC base
World’s Edgethe second home of the Apex Games, on the volcanic planet Talos
Olympusa floating city
Storm Pointa storm-battered island
Broken Moonthe shattered moon Cleo
E-Districta neon district of the city of Suotamo

World’s Edge was reworked for Season 30. East Village replaced Climatizer, War Camp replaced Survey Camp, Tree Settlement replaced The Tree, and Sorting Factory and Stacks are back. If you haven’t dropped there in a while, expect several areas to look different. Everything else the season changed is covered in our current season guide.

Which maps are in rotation right now

The map rotation changes with each split, so twice per season. In Season 30 it looks like this:

PeriodMaps in rotation
Split 1 (from 4 August 2026)World’s Edge, Storm Point, E-District
Split 2 (from 15 September 2026)World’s Edge, Olympus, Broken Moon

According to the Split 2 patch notes, the rotation is the same for regular matches and Ranked. Only the pace differs: in pubs the map changes every 90 minutes, in Ranked every 4.5 hours. So if you’re after a particular map, you’ll wait longer for it in Ranked, but once it’s up you can play it all evening.

Kings Canyon, Storm Point and E-District aren’t in the regular Split 2 rotation, although Kings Canyon still shows up in Wildcard (more on that below). Season 30 ends on 3 November 2026, and the new season will bring a new rotation. As of 20 October 2026, EA hasn’t announced which maps it will include.

Core and Freestyle: two groups of modes

In its help pages, EA splits the modes into two groups. Core is competitive play, meaning Ranked and Unranked. Freestyle covers the more relaxed modes: Wildcard, Mixtape, Bot Royale Evolved and limited-time modes.

In Core, legends are picked one after another and each legend can appear only once per squad. Class perks only apply here. The EVO system levels your legend from white through blue to purple, raising your armour and unlocking a perk choice along the way. Our guide to legends and classes explains how the classes work, and the beginner guide walks you through a battle royale match and its player count.

Wildcard: faster matches for 30 players

Wildcard is a shorter, more forgiving take on battle royale. A match lasts around 15 minutes and has 30 players. The rules are friendlier than in Core:

  • legends heal automatically out of combat and everyone has a self-revive,
  • as long as one teammate is alive, revives work right up to the final ring,
  • legends are picked simultaneously and the same legend can appear more than once on a team.

Loot is simplified. There are no backpacks, knockdown shields, medkits, accelerants, helmets or weapon attachments. Weapons come fully kitted and level up with your EVO. When a player dies, their ammo and EVO Orbs burst out.

In Split 2, Wildcard runs on Kings Canyon Wildcard, Olympus Wildcard and District Wildcard. Until 3 November 2026, the Blood Pact event adds a haunted Kings Canyon and a faction choice. The details are in our news piece on the Blood Pact event.

Mixtape: small arenas and quick fights

Mixtape offers smaller modes on selected parts of maps, and the mode rotates every hour. From 15 September to 3 November 2026 you’ll find:

ModeMaps
TDM (team deathmatch)Fragment, Skull Town, Monument, Estates
ControlProduction Yard, Labs, Barometer, Caustic
Gun RunMonument, Estates, Fragment, Skull Town

One thing people often miss: Road to Ranked challenges don’t count in Mixtape or Wildcard. If you’re working towards Ranked, you have to complete them in Core.

Bot Royale Evolved, Private Match and practice

Bot Royale Evolved is a battle royale for up to 60 players where most opponents are bots. A match usually has one to five human squads and 15 to 19 bot squads. You earn XP, Battle Pass progress and challenge progress, but not badges or stats. It’s handy for warming up or ticking off challenges without pressure.

Private Match is a custom game for up to 60 players and 5 spectators. It requires crossplay to be on and gives no XP. For practice, there’s Training and the Firing Range, where you can try out weapons and legends in peace.

Ranked: rotation and Drop Zone

Ranked in Season 30 shares its maps with the regular rotation, but each map stays up for 4.5 hours. Higher up the ladder you’ll run into Drop Zone: once a lobby passes a certain share of Diamond, Master or Predator players, every squad is assigned a specific drop location (POI, a named area on the map). How points are scored, what entry costs and how to unlock Ranked is all in our Ranked guide.
