You can cancel PS Plus in about a minute: on the web in Account Management, on PS5 in your account settings or on PS4 in the PlayStation Plus menu. Cancelling does not end your membership on the spot, though. It switches off future payments, and all benefits keep running until the end of the period you have already paid for. Below are all three methods as Sony describes them, when you can get money back, what you lose once the subscription ends and what you keep. Accurate as of 20 October 2026.
What cancelling PS Plus actually does
According to Sony’s cancellation policy, PlayStation Plus is a continuous subscription with recurring billing. Cancelling stops future payments. The subscription then runs until the date the next payment would have been taken, and ends there. Until then you have everything your tier includes.
That has a practical upside: you can cancel right after paying and lose nothing before the paid period is over. It does not automatically refund the rest of the period, though. Refunds follow their own rule, explained further down.
How to cancel PS Plus on the web
- Sign in to Account Management.
- Select Subscription from the menu on the left.
- Select Cancel Subscription next to PlayStation Plus.

This route is handy when you are away from the console: a browser on your phone or computer is enough.
How to cancel PS Plus on PS5
- Go to Settings > Users and Accounts.
- Select Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Subscriptions > PlayStation Plus.
- Select Cancel Subscription.
How to cancel PS Plus on PS4
- Go to PlayStation Plus > Manage Membership > Subscription.
- Select Cancel Subscription.
Sony’s exact wording for all three methods is on its cancel PlayStation Plus page.
Changed your mind? Reactivate
If you cancel and then decide you want to keep the subscription after all, you do not need to buy anything again. Before the next payment date, select Reactivate Subscription in the same place and the subscription stays active.
If you are fine with paying but the tier does not suit you, Sony has a separate process for changing your PS Plus membership plan between Essential, Extra and Premium. What each tier includes is covered in our overview of PS Plus tiers.
When you can get your money back
Cancelling and getting a refund are two separate things. Under the PS Store cancellation policy, these rules apply to subscriptions:
- The window is 14 days from the date of the initial transaction. This applies even if you have already started using the subscription.
- First payment only. A refund covers your first subscription payment, not a recurring renewal charge.
- The amount may be lower. If you have used the subscription (played online, downloaded monthly games or used cloud storage), Sony may reduce the refund in proportion to your use. Your transaction history may show this as a full refund followed by a deduction for the time you used the service.
- Free trials count. If you started with a free trial, the trial period is part of the 14 days. Sony’s example: after a 7-day trial, you have 7 days left to cancel once you have been charged.
How to request a refund, and how it works for games, DLC and pre-orders, is explained in our guide to PS Store refunds. The official rules are in Sony’s PS Store cancellation policy.
What you lose and what you keep
| After the subscription ends | What it means |
|---|---|
| Monthly games | Lost. Content you downloaded at no extra cost as part of the subscription will no longer be available. |
| Online multiplayer | Lost. |
| Online storage | You lose access to saved data in the cloud. |
| Redeemed packs and avatars | Yours to keep. |
| PS Plus discounted purchases | Yours to keep, they are games you bought. |
Games from the Extra and Premium catalogue work the same way as monthly games: they are tied to an active subscription. Our article on free games in PS Plus goes into detail.
Before it ends: rescue your saves
If you keep saves in the cloud, deal with them before your paid period runs out. PS Plus online storage holds up to 100 GB of PS5 saved data and 100 GB of PS4 saved data (with a limit of 1,000 files for PS4). Once the subscription ends, you lose access to it.
To turn on automatic syncing between the console and the cloud:
- Go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings.
- Select Saved Data (PS5).
- Select Sync Saved Data > Auto-Sync Saved Data.
Syncing in rest mode requires Stay Connected to the Internet to be switched on. Where saves are managed on PS5 is shown in our guide to freeing up space.
If you pay for Premium mainly for cloud streaming, think about what you lose there as well before cancelling. How streaming in Premium works is covered in our article on Premium streaming.
