Dune: Awakening hotfix: login decorations, BattlEye rollback and a pile of fixes

A fresh hotfix has landed in Dune: Awakening on Steam and it needs a client-side download. If the update doesn’t show up on its own, restart your Steam client – servers come back online shortly after. Below you’ll find everything the patch changes, from a free decoration set to a change the developers had to pull back.

Features and changes

  • New decoration set for logging in. Everyone who logs in between September 17 and October 22 gets a set of 6 pieces: a banner, two chairs, two tables, and a carpet.
  • Updated game thumbnail.
  • New UserServerCustomSettings.ini file for self-hosted servers. You’ll find it in the steamcmd download folder. Drop it into your UserSettings folder to activate the newly added custom settings.

The BattlEye change is on hold

The patch originally added the option to launch the game without the BattlEye anti-cheat installed or enabled – meant for single-player mode and for private or self-hosted servers that don’t require it. BattlEye would still stay mandatory on multiplayer servers that have it enabled, and joining one without BattlEye would throw an error.

That change is currently disabled. It requires an update to the launch options on Steam, and that isn’t replicating correctly for all clients yet, which was causing BattlEye errors for some players trying to get into multiplayer. The team pulled it to avoid further disruption and says it will be deployed again as soon as it can be done cleanly. If you’re following where single-player is heading, we covered the PTC patch 1.5.1.0 separately.

Fixes

Technical and stability

  • Improved server and client stability.
  • Fixed an issue where XBOX’s Age/ID Verification for the UK and AU could stop players from joining a multiplayer session. Everything about the console version is in our article on Dune: Awakening on consoles.
  • Fixed an issue where vehicle textures stayed low quality for several seconds when you approached vehicles quickly from afar.

Resources, building, and crafting

  • Fixed an issue where interacting with certain Plant Fibers yielded no resources and left the plant standing in the world.

Combat

  • Fixed an issue where NPCs could occasionally get staggered into unreachable spots.

Vehicles

  • Fixed an issue in single-player mode where vehicle module stats could get overwritten with other module stats.

Worldbuilding and exploration

  • Fixed an issue where some players hit a black screen at the end of the Forty Fears map.
  • Fixed an issue where some players could spawn under the terrain in single-player mode.

Story, Journey and new player experience

  • Fixed an issue where some players could miss the final Book I dialogue and cinematic.
  • Fixed an issue where the Across the Gap: Refuel the sandbike journey step failed to register as completed after the bike had been refueled.

Landsraad & Deep Desert

  • Fixed an issue where the 50% building cost reduction in the Deep Desert wouldn’t apply.

Graphics, animations, and VFX

  • Fixed an issue that could cause falling or jittery movement while walking on buildings.

What it means for you

If you play solo, this is a solid batch – spawning under the terrain, overwritten vehicle module stats and the black screen at the end of Forty Fears are all gone. Story players finally get the closing Book I cinematic reliably, and builders in the Deep Desert get back the 50% discount that simply wasn’t applying. Just don’t be surprised that the BattlEye toggle is missing for now; it’s coming back later.

FAQ

How do I get the new decoration set?

Just log into the game between September 17 and October 22. You’ll receive 6 pieces: a banner, two chairs, two tables, and a carpet.

Why can’t I launch the game without BattlEye?

That option was part of this hotfix, but the developers disabled it again. The change requires an update to the launch options on Steam, which isn’t replicating correctly for all clients and was causing BattlEye errors in multiplayer. It will be deployed again as soon as possible.

Do I have to download anything?

Yes, this hotfix requires a client-side download. If it doesn’t start automatically, restart your Steam client. Servers come back up shortly after.

What does the new UserServerCustomSettings.ini file do?

It’s meant for self-hosted servers and you’ll find it in the steamcmd download folder. Apply it to your UserSettings folder to activate the newly added custom settings.

Does the Deep Desert building discount work now?

Yes. The patch fixes an issue where the 50% building cost reduction in the Deep Desert wasn’t being applied.
