Patch 1.5.1.0 for Dune: Awakening has been available on the Public Test Client since 13 August. The headline features are single-player and a new character-focused approach to the game. The update is set to accompany the console release on 22 September, but for now it’s an early experimental build meant for testing, not a finished patch for regular play.
Expect unfinished features and temporary workarounds. This time the patch will stay on the PTC longer than usual so the developers can gather feedback early and keep adjusting it. You’ll find more guides and news in the overview of Dune: Awakening articles.
Single-player: Arrakis on your terms
The new single-player mode lets you survive on Arrakis on your own. You can pick from preset difficulties or customize the game settings yourself. The announcement doesn’t yet give a detailed list of the options you’ll have.
Pick your characters right in the main menu
The second major change is a character-focused approach to the game. You’ll create and browse your characters directly in the main menu. Each time you play, you then choose where to take that character. The short announcement doesn’t go into the specific rules or limits of this selection.
Performance, combat and dungeon rewards
Besides the new features, the patch also brings a range of changes and fixes. The main adjustments include:
- Significant performance improvements and optimization.
- Combat balance changes, including melee improvements and NPC balance changes.
- Reworked difficulty and reward scaling on open-world dungeon maps. The goal is for rewards to better match the effort you put in.
- Better explanations of game mechanics and a friendlier onboarding for new players.
- Improvements to the user interface, controller support and haptic feedback.
This overview doesn’t include specific values for the combat or reward changes. If you need help finding your way through quests while playing, you can also use the Chapter 2 walkthrough; it’s a standalone guide, not a list of changes in this patch.
Two new face tattoos
You now get two new face tattoo options for your character: Sandworm’s Eye and The Maker’s Markings. Their designs came from community suggestions during the First Anniversary livestream.
How to make testing on the PTC easier
When trying out the changes, use the Progression Unlock Panel, which is only available on the PTC. It lets you get resources, gear and XP, unlock Journey chapters and faction ranks, and obtain crafting materials. That way you don’t have to gather everything you need for testing the normal way.
You’ll find details on how the test client works in the official Public Test Client guide. The changes above are only the main points of the announcement; for the complete list, the developers point to the full patch notes for 1.5.1.0.
