What Battlefield 6 is about

Multiplayer is the core. At launch it had 9 maps and 8 modes; today there are 19 maps. You play Conquest, where you capture points and drain the enemy’s tickets, Breakthrough, where attackers take the map sector by sector, the new Escalation, Rush and smaller infantry modes. On the big maps you drive tanks, fly helicopters and jets, and buildings crumble under fire.

There are four classes. Assault leads the push, Engineer repairs vehicles and destroys tanks, Support heals, resupplies and revives, and Recon snipes and spots enemies with drones. Any class can carry any weapon, but its signature weapon gets a bonus. Which one to pick and how to play it is in our classes guide.

Campaign

The single-player campaign has 9 missions. You play as the Dagger 1-3 unit against the private army Pax Armata in 2027, visiting Gibraltar, Brooklyn, Cairo and New York. According to reviewers it takes roughly 5 to 8 hours. Missions and length are in our campaign guide.

What critics praise and what bothers players

On Metacritic the PS5 version has 83 from 71 reviews, PC 82 and Xbox Series X 84. PCGamesN calls it a triumphant return and the smoothest, most bombastically entertaining entry in the series, with the lacklustre campaign as its only real flaw. PC Gamer gave it 82: it’s more about refinements than surprises, but a well-made Battlefield is automatically one of the best shooters of the year. It criticizes a map pool that can’t match Mirak Valley, slow progression and guns locked behind grindy challenges. GamesRadar+ praises the layered multiplayer and classes, and criticizes the lack of originality, a muddled campaign and the slow pace of unlocking gear.

Players are much harsher. On Steam the game has 63.3% positive out of 376,042 reviews, rated Mixed, and Metacritic users give it 6.7 out of 10.

Seasons and REDSEC

Season 5, Siege of Vegas, has been running since October 13, 2026 with the Vegas Strip and Area 51 maps and new weapons. The European Casino map arrives on November 10, and the Frozen Aces update with a server browser on December 8. The Battle Pass costs 1,100 Battlefield Coins, which is €9.99 on Steam. What’s in the current season is in our season guide.

The REDSEC battle royale is free, and you don’t need to own Battlefield 6 to play it. Matches have 100 players on the Fort Lyndon map, and progression carries over to the full game. More in our REDSEC guide.

Price and platforms

On Steam the standard edition costs €69.99 and the Game of the Year Edition €99.99. Since October 13, 2026 the game is in Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass through EA Play, and on PS5 it’s included with EA Play. We compare the editions in our editions and price guide.

On PC, Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 must be enabled, otherwise the Javelin anti-cheat won’t let you launch the game. How to do it is in our Secure Boot guide. The minimum is an RTX 2060 or RX 5600 XT and 16 GB of RAM, with an RTX 3060 Ti recommended. It doesn’t run on Steam Deck. The game needs a permanent internet connection and an EA account.

Who Battlefield 6 is for (and who it isn’t)

It’s for you if you want large battles where the team, vehicles and terrain decide, not just fast aim. If you love Conquest and Breakthrough, this is the best the series has offered in years. With Game Pass Ultimate or EA Play you can try it at no extra cost, and REDSEC is free for everyone.

Skip it if you’re buying for the story. The campaign is short and, according to critics, average. And if you can’t stand grinding for weapon unlocks, don’t have Secure Boot on your PC or play on Steam Deck, expect the game to give you trouble.

Verdict: Is Battlefield 6 worth it?

Yes, if you’re after large multiplayer battles and don’t care about the campaign. We’re giving it 7/10.

Battlefield 6 has multiplayer that critics praise, and PC Gamer counts it among the best shooters of the year; regular seasons keep expanding it. Players on Steam are much cooler on it than critics, and that shows in the score. Points come off for the weak campaign, slow unlocks and the PC requirements of Secure Boot and anti-cheat.
