Fast, polished multiplayer, good maps and solid Zombies. A big minus for the co-op campaign and Endgame, which critics call the weakest part of the game, and for players who rate it Mostly Negative on Steam.

What Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is about
It’s 2035. David Mason leads an elite JSOC team into the Mediterranean city of Avalon, Raul Menendez is back, and the tech company The Guild is pulling strings in the background. The game follows Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 6. We won’t spoil more.
The campaign has 11 missions, and you play it solo or with friends in co-op. According to reviewers it takes roughly 4 to 6 hours. After it comes Endgame, a PvE mode in Avalon for up to 32 players in squads of four, where you collect gear and abilities and lose your match progress when you die. Since November 21, 2025 Endgame is available right away, without finishing the campaign. Details are in our campaign guide.
Multiplayer and Zombies
Multiplayer launched with 18 maps, 16 classic 6v6 maps and two large 20v20 Skirmish maps, including the Black Ops 2 remasters Express, Hijacked and Raid. Each of the six seasons added more. New is the Overclock system, which for the first time lets you upgrade scorestreaks and equipment too, and the Overload mode. You pick three perks out of 27 for your loadout. How to combine them is in our perks and scorestreaks guide.
Zombies is classic round-based Treyarch. The launch map Ashes of the Damned is the largest round-based map in Black Ops history, and over the year Astra Malorum, Paradox Junction, Totenreich, Kowakujō and Rex Infernus followed. All maps are in our Zombies guide.
What critics praise and what bothers players
On Metacritic the PC version has 65 from 58 reviews, and PS5 66. PCGamesN calls it the series’ best multiplayer in years, praising the maps, movement and the new Overload mode, but says the campaign is the biggest disappointment and Endgame mostly falls flat. GamesRadar+ finds the multiplayer fast, frenetic and polished and Zombies a trip back to the good old days of Black Ops 2, while the campaign and Endgame feel underbaked and repetitive. PC Gamer gave it just 40 and called it Call of Duty at its most obnoxious and least enjoyable.
Players are even harsher. On Steam the game has just 37.7% positive out of 5,143 reviews, rated Mostly Negative, and Metacritic users give it 1.7 out of 10. Many players are on Battle.net, Xbox or PlayStation, though, so Steam only shows part of the picture.
Seasons and what’s next
Season 06, The Haunting, shared by Black Ops 7 and Warzone, has been running since September 17, 2026 with the Quantum and Bloodstead maps and the Tenshu Survival map for Zombies. Activision hasn’t announced when the season ends. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 from Infinity Ward comes out on October 23, 2026. What’s in the season is in our Season 06 guide.
Price and platforms
On Steam the game costs €79.99. The whole game is in Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. The Battle Pass costs 1,100 COD Points, which is €9.99 on Steam. We compare the editions in our editions and price guide.
The game needs a permanent internet connection, even for the campaign, and an Activision account. On PC, TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are required; the minimum is a GTX 1060 or RX 470 and 8 GB of RAM, and Steam currently lists 161 GB on an SSD. More in our system requirements guide.
Who Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is for (and who it isn’t)
It’s for you if you mainly want fast multiplayer and Zombies and have Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass. There you can try it at no extra cost, and a year after launch it has plenty of maps and content.
Skip it if you buy Call of Duty for the story. Critics see the campaign and Endgame as the weakest part of the game. And if you’re thinking about buying it at full price now, keep in mind that Modern Warfare 4 comes out on October 23, 2026 and players’ and developers’ attention will move there.
Verdict: Is Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 worth it?
Probably not, unless you have it in Game Pass or you’re purely after multiplayer and Zombies. We’re giving it 5/10.
Black Ops 7 has good multiplayer and Zombies that critics praise. The weak co-op campaign and Endgame drag the whole package down, and players rate it much lower than critics. Points also come off for always-online in the campaign and the timing: its successor, Modern Warfare 4, launches on October 23, 2026.
