The Brawler is the ninth class of the Korean and Taiwanese version of AION 2, and it will come to the global version later. It is a melee fighter with Gauntlets (metal gloves used as a weapon) whose attacks fill a Rage gauge, and once the gauge is full it enters an empowered state called Rampage. It was added to the Korean and Taiwanese version with the Chapter 1 update on 1 July 2026. The global version starts on 30 September 2026 with the eight original classes, and NCSOFT hasn’t confirmed an exact date for the Brawler’s arrival, so this guide is a preparation for when it comes.
This guide covers AION 2, not the original AION from 2009. That game has its own class with the same name, a different weapon and a different system, and when you search for the Brawler, it shows up right next to the new one. We break down the difference between them further below.
The essentials in five points
- The Brawler is a melee DPS with Gauntlets – a class focused on close-range damage that hits and then gets out of the way. It is not a tank, and it is not a class you can play by mashing one combo key.
- The whole class is built on the Rage → Rampage cycle. Attacks fill the gauge, and a full gauge unlocks an empowered state in which some abilities behave differently. If you pop Rampage the moment it is ready, you are playing the Brawler at half its potential.
- It arrived on 1 July 2026 with the Chapter 1 update, so it has been through fewer balance patches than the eight original classes. Expect its numbers to shift more than those of the others.
- The difficulty is high. The public skill database rates it as “High”, and the playstyle matches: positioning from the front, managing the gauge and timing Rampage. It is not a good first character in an MMO.
- During development it was called Fistmaster (Korean 권성 / Kwonseong), and in the game data it is listed as fighter. If you have come across the name Vandal, it is the same class.
Who the Brawler is and what it does in a group
The Brawler is a front-line damage class. It stands right in the enemy’s face, stays within Gauntlet range and deals damage in short waves that it sets up itself by filling the Rage gauge. NCSOFT’s official description from 6 July 2026 sums it up like this: “Using its dedicated weapon, the Gauntlets, the Brawler specializes in front-line attacks and combo-based charges. Basic attacks and active skills generate Rage, and reaching a certain Rage gauge triggers a Rampage state.”
In a group it fills the role of a mobile DPS that can jump to a more distant target, pull it in and interrupt its attack. It is not an AoE class like the Gladiator or a pure single-target killer like the Assassin – it sits between the two, and it depends less on gear than on whether the player hits the right window.
According to the game data, it has 26 active and 12 passive abilities. That is above average compared with the other classes, and it is one of the reasons the Brawler takes longer to learn.
Brawler strengths and weaknesses
| Strengths | Weaknesses |
|---|---|
| High damage output during the Rampage window | Outside Rampage, damage is average |
| Plenty of crowd control – stuns, pulls, interrupts | Has to stay in melee range, right where it hurts the most |
| Excellent mobility between targets | High difficulty, lots of abilities to learn |
| Strong in one-on-one fights | Newest class, hit by balance changes more often |
A small inconsistency worth knowing: NCSOFT and the media write about Gauntlets, but in the game data the weapon type is listed as Fist. In practice they are the same thing.
Rage and Rampage: the engine of the class
Rage is a gauge that fills with basic attacks and active abilities. Once it is full, you can activate Rampage – an empowered state that drains itself over its duration.
Three things happen during Rampage: combat speeds up, frontal attacks get stronger and some abilities change how they work. Exploding Fist becomes instant and refills Rage instead, and Chain Fist triggers automatically instead of only after a critical hit.
The practical takeaway is simple: don’t activate Rampage as soon as it lights up. Save it for bosses, for the phase when the enemy has a vulnerability window, or for the moment in group PvP when you need to take someone down within a few seconds. Rampage used on trash mobs is a wasted cycle.
The second thing to remember right away: Rampage is not invincibility. It boosts your output, not your survival. If you turn it on in the middle of five enemies without a healer backing you, you just die faster.
Key Brawler skills
The Brawler’s rotation (the order in which you use skills) has three layers: build Rage, close the distance and keep the target in place, then unload your burst during Rampage.
| Group | Skills | What they do |
|---|---|---|
| Rage building | Flurry, Roundhouse | The core of the rotation. Flurry hits up to four enemies and returns Rage, Roundhouse depletes the stagger gauge. |
| Gap closing and movement | Whirlwind, Phantom Kick, Shoulder Tackle | Whirlwind jumps between enemies, Phantom Kick pulls an enemy in, Shoulder Tackle has a chance to stun. |
| Rampage burst | Exploding Fist, Chain Fist | Your main damage, meaning a short window with much higher output. Both behave differently during Rampage. |
| Control | Sweeping Kick, Ground Smash, Typhoon Fury | Ground Smash is an AoE stun, Typhoon Fury follows up on a staggered enemy. |
| Defense | Defiance and passive abilities | Defiance removes stun, knockdown, knock-up, fear, freeze and bind, and briefly protects you from further crowd control. |
You won’t find exact damage numbers or cooldowns here, and that is on purpose. For the Brawler there is still no verifiable numerical source that doesn’t come from the Asian client, and on top of that the numbers change most often for the newest class. Once the Brawler reaches the global version, we will add them from the game.
Stigma skills and how many the Brawler gets
Stigma slots are optional slots where you pick additional abilities – and they are exactly what makes the difference between two Brawlers at the same level. We explain how the system works in a separate article on the Stigma system.
Sources disagree on the number of slots: the most comprehensive available guide lists six, while NCSOFT officially announced an expansion to five. Either the source is wrong, or the new class got an extra slot. Until it can be checked in the game, count on five and treat a sixth as a bonus.
Recommended stats and gear
Stat priority based on Korean and Taiwanese data: Attack Power → Critical Hit Rate → Attack Speed. For the Brawler, Attack Speed isn’t just more hits per second – faster attacks mean faster Rage building, and that means more Rampage windows per fight.
Secondary stats to watch are Life steal, which keeps your health up when playing solo, and CC Resist. The Brawler stands on the front line, so every second you can’t move is a second without damage.
| Where you play | Stat priority |
|---|---|
| PvE, dungeons and raids | Attack Power → Critical Hit Rate → Attack Speed → HP |
| PvP, group fights | Attack Power → CC Resist → HP → Critical Hit Rate |
| Solo leveling | Attack Speed → Life steal → Attack Power |
Pick a weapon with bonuses to attack and critical hits. As for armor, it won’t save the Brawler – its defense is movement, interrupting the enemy and using Defiance at the right moment.
Three Brawler builds
PvE build for dungeons and raids
The goal is steady damage throughout the whole fight plus one big window on the boss. The core of the rotation:
- Whirlwind or Phantom Kick – close the distance and start building Rage.
- Flurry and Roundhouse – keep the rotation going and charge the gauge.
- Rampage only once the boss is vulnerable, not before.
- Exploding Fist and Chain Fist during Rampage – your main damage.
- When Rampage runs out, go back to Flurry and charge the next cycle.
The most common mistake is step three. Popping Rampage right at the start of a fight looks good on the opening damage numbers, but overall you lose one full cycle in the phase where it would have the biggest impact. Our dungeon overview shows where this build pays off the most.
PvP build for group fights
In PvP, the Brawler is a tool for breaking formations. Your goal isn’t to deal the most damage per fight, but to reach the healer or the caster and not let them get away.
- Phantom Kick – pull in a target that thought it was safe.
- Shoulder Tackle or Ground Smash – control, so they don’t have time to react.
- Rampage – only now, on a target that can’t move.
- Keep Defiance for the counterattack, not for engaging.
One thing you need to factor in: the patch from 8 July 2026 reduced PvP damage for all classes across the board by 30%, so fights last longer and your opponent has more time to react. Our editorial reading – not a confirmed balance intention from NCSOFT – is that the Brawler gained more than it lost: its strength isn’t in a one-off burst, but in the fact that the target can’t escape.
You will get the most out of this build in the large PvP zone where whole groups clash – we break down how it works in our article on the Abyss.
Solo leveling build
When playing solo nobody heals you, so the build revolves around sustain. Life steal and Attack Speed go up, and you use Rampage regularly on packs of enemies instead of saving it for a single target – the rule about saving it applies to bosses, not to the road to max level.
We sum up what the whole progression looks like and what is worth doing alongside the main story in our leveling guide.
What balance patches changed for the Brawler
The Brawler is the newest class in the game, so NCSOFT tweaks it more often than the rest of the roster. The latest Korean patch notes from 19 August 2026 change three of its skills: one gets higher stun gauge damage (from 10 to 15), a zone skill no longer has a mismatch between its cooldown and the zone’s duration, and a skill that targeted incorrectly during Rampage has been fixed.
That first change isn’t cosmetic – more stun gauge damage means the Brawler can more easily get a target into the state where Typhoon Fury follows up on it. With this class, it is exactly these small details that make the difference.
We track which Korean and Taiwanese updates make it into the global version, and in what order, in our Chapter 1 summary and in the article on NCSOFT’s plans.
“Gladiator is no longer the best DPS” – how much truth is in it
You will run into this claim everywhere people write about the Brawler. It comes from a community video from late June 2026 and concerns the Korean meta. It is one creator’s opinion, not a statement from the publisher.
Two things count against it. When announcing the class, NCSOFT explicitly stated that it intended to balance it against the existing classes, not release it deliberately overpowered – and it planned weekly balance patches up to the release of Chapter 1.
The second one is mechanical: Chapter 1 wasn’t just the addition of the Brawler, but a complete balance pass for all eight original classes. The claim that “the Gladiator dropped because of the Brawler” therefore ignores that the Gladiator itself was changed in the same update. We go through both sides of the debate in our Gladiator class guide.
The practical conclusion: don’t pick the Brawler because someone promised you the highest numbers. Pick it because the playstyle suits you.
Brawler or Gladiator? How to decide
Both classes fight in melee and both deal damage, but they play differently.
| Brawler | Gladiator | |
|---|---|---|
| Style | Charge-and-burst cycle | Steady output throughout |
| Weapon | Gauntlets | Heavy melee weapons |
| Durability | Lower, relies on movement | Higher, can take more hits |
| Difficulty | High | Medium |
| Best for | Players who like timing one big window | Players who want reliable performance without thinking about a gauge |
Put simply: the Gladiator forgives mistakes, the Brawler punishes them – and rewards precision. You will find the full roster with roles in our class overview and tier list.
Is the Brawler a good choice for beginners?
Not really. It asks you to do three things at once: stay in melee range, watch the Rage gauge and hit the right moment for Rampage. If you skip one of them, the result is mediocre, and it is easy to mistake that for a weak class.
If AION 2 is your first MMORPG, start with something more forgiving – you will find recommendations in our article on the best class for beginners. Keep the Brawler for later: in the global version it isn’t available at launch anyway, and by the time it arrives you will know the dungeons and the rhythm of combat.
The control mode you play in matters too – AION 2 lets you switch between action-style aiming and classic tab targeting, and for a class built on positioning that is not a cosmetic choice. We cover it in our article on the combat system.
Fistmaster, Kwonseong, Vandal, fighter – why one class has five names
It isn’t five classes. It is one class across five stages of development and translation.
| Name | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| Brawler | Official English name, NCSOFT, 6 July 2026 |
| Fistmaster | Working title before release, used in teasers from June 2026 |
| 권성 / Kwonseong | Korean name of the class |
| Vandal | Name used by one website – it is the same class, not a tenth one |
| fighter | Internal identifier in the game data; the skill database has the class page at an address ending in /fighter, but titled “Brawler” |
You may have seen the same thing with the Spiritmaster, whose internal name in the game data is Elementalist – and NCSOFT itself once used it in a press release. It is a consequence of the game going through several sets of translations.
Watch out: the Brawler also exists in the original AION – and it is a different class
The original AION, the game from 2009, got its own class called the Brawler on 22 November 2024. It ranks high in search results when you look up the Brawler in AION 2, so there is a good chance you will run into it. A Brawler fights up close – and you can show the same dedication with AION 2 merch from the GamersTogether shop.
They are easy to mix up: both fight with their fists and both have a charge resource. Beyond that, they have nothing in common.
| Feature | Brawler in AION 2 | Brawler in the original AION |
|---|---|---|
| Game | AION 2 (2025 / 2026) | AION, the European version of the 2009 game |
| Added | 1 July 2026, Chapter 1 | 22 November 2024 |
| Weapon | Gauntlets | Dragon Claws |
| Charge resource | Rage → Rampage state | Qi → temporarily higher damage |
| Typical abilities | Flurry, Exploding Fist, Ground Smash | Teleport Counter, attack deflection |
When you google “aion brawler”, you get both. If a guide mentions Dragon Claws or the Qi system, you are reading about the 2009 game. We sum up how the two games differ beyond class names in our comparison of AION Classic and AION 2.
What awaits the Brawler in the global version
Early access starts on 30 September 2026, the full free-to-play launch on 5 October 2026 – we cover the dates and everything that comes with them in our article on the AION 2 release date.
The Brawler won’t be there at launch: the global version starts with the eight original classes, and the Brawler will arrive later. NCSOFT hasn’t confirmed an exact date. Two things will only become clear once it does. First, which balance state it arrives with: the Korean servers have been through more than thirty-five updates, and the global client may not include the very latest numbers. Second, how the Brawler will perform in an environment where nobody has played it for years – tier lists from Korea describe a meta that won’t exist in the West during the first weeks.
If you want to try it out sooner, you can go to the Taiwanese server – we describe the process in our guide to playing on the Taiwanese server and sum up what it looks like in practice in our first impressions. Expect a separate account, a different client and a ping of around 200 ms from Europe.
Once the Brawler arrives in the global version, we will update this guide with numbers from the global client – cooldowns, exact skill values and Stigma slots verified in the game.

FAQ
No, not at launch. The global version starts with eight classes: Templar, Gladiator, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric and Chanter. The Brawler is the ninth class of the Korean and Taiwanese version, where it was added with the Chapter 1 update on 1 July 2026. It will come to the global version later, but NCSOFT hasn’t confirmed an exact date.
It depends on where you play. For dungeons and raids, go for Attack Power, Critical Hit Rate and Attack Speed and save Rampage for bosses. For PvP, prioritize Attack Power and CC Resist and only activate Rampage on a target that is under control. For solo leveling, Attack Speed with Life steal works best.
Rampage is the Brawler’s empowered state. Attacks fill the Rage gauge, and once it is full you can activate Rampage – it drains itself over its duration, speeds up combat, strengthens frontal attacks and transforms some abilities. Rather than using it right away, it is worth saving for bosses or an important fight against other players.
The global version launches with eight: Templar, Gladiator, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric and Chanter. The Korean and Taiwanese version has nine, because the Chapter 1 update added the Brawler there on 1 July 2026. The Brawler will come to the global version later; NCSOFT hasn’t confirmed an exact date.
Not really. The skill database lists it as a high-difficulty class, and the playstyle matches – you have to stay in melee range, watch the Rage gauge and time Rampage. For a first MMORPG character, Templar, Cleric or Chanter are better choices.
No, they are two different classes in two different games. The one in the original AION has been in the game since 22 November 2024, fights with Dragon Claws and uses the Qi system. The one in AION 2 uses Gauntlets and the Rage and Rampage system. If a guide mentions Dragon Claws, you are reading about the older game.
The numbers for this class will shift more than for the rest of the roster – it is the newest one and NCSOFT tweaks it the most often. That is why we will go through this guide again once the Brawler arrives in the global version and add values verified in the global client. You will find all the other AION 2 guides in our AION 2 game guides section. Information verified as of 26 August 2026.
