AION 2 Chapter 1. Lands of Sand and Snow is the game’s first major content update, released on 1 July 2026 on the Korean and Taiwanese servers. It added a ninth playable class, the Brawler, raised the level cap, expanded Stigma progression and opened two new regions, Morheim and Eltnen. The global version launches on 30 September 2026 in early access for Founder’s Pack owners and on 5 October 2026 for everyone, exclusively on PC, and it starts with the eight original classes; the Brawler will come to it later.
The key point up front: it is not confirmed that Chapter 1 content will be in the global version at launch. NCSOFT has not said anywhere what content the global servers will start with. Everything below describes the state of the Korean and Taiwanese version. It is the best available preview of what the West will probably get sooner or later, not a list of what you will see on day one.
One more trap: this overview covers AION 2, not the original AION from 2009. Many of the terms that come up below (Abyss, Stigma, Daeva, Morheim, Kina) exist in both games, and search engines routinely mix them up. Where the risk is highest, we point it out directly in the text.
Last updated: 15 August 2026. Latest recorded update: Chapter 1 (1 July 2026, Korean and Taiwanese servers), followed by the balance pass of 8 July 2026.
The five most important points
- Chapter 1. Lands of Sand and Snow was released on 1 July 2026 on the Korean and Taiwanese servers. Some media and aggregators list it under the community name “Land of Sand and Frost”; the official name is the first one.
- A ninth class, the Brawler, was added, fighting with gauntlets and using the Rage and Rampage system. The global version launches with the eight original classes; the Brawler will come to it later, and NCSOFT hasn’t confirmed an exact date.
- The level cap went up from 45 to 50, Stigma skills can be pushed up to level 25 and most stat caps were removed.
- Two regions opened, Eltnen for the Elyos and Morheim for the Asmodians, and with them a new Pendant slot, four Arcana slots, two new dungeons and a new layer of the Abyss.
- The balance pass for all eight original classes is a separate event dated 8 July 2026, not part of Chapter 1. Its most notable change: a flat 30% reduction in PvP damage.
What Chapter 1 is and why it matters even before the global launch
Chapter 1 is the biggest content update AION 2 has had since release. The game has been running on the Korean and Taiwanese servers since 19 November 2025 and has received a patch practically every Wednesday since then. Chapter 1, released on 1 July 2026, stands out from that series both in size and because it was the first to expand the world rather than just tune the numbers.
For players outside Korea and Taiwan, this is still content on someone else’s server. The global version opens on 30 September 2026 in early access for Founder’s Pack owners and on 5 October 2026, free for everyone; the details on both dates are in our article on the AION 2 release date. The only way to reach Chapter 1 content earlier is through the Taiwanese server. The steps are in our guide to playing on the Taiwanese server, and what it looks like in practice is summed up in our first impressions.
Why read this if you are waiting for the global version? Because it is the only documented outline of where the game is heading. In an interview on 15 June 2026, NCSOFT developers said the global servers will launch with a so-called backlog, meaning accumulated content, and that they will release it based on data and player feedback, not on a fixed schedule.
That gives an honest answer to the most common question: Chapter 1 content will by all indications reach the global version, but the publisher has not said when. Any specific date you come across elsewhere is a guess.
The new Brawler class, ninth on the roster
Chapter 1 added the Brawler, a melee fighter using Gauntlets (metal gloves used as a weapon). Attacks fill the Rage gauge, and once it is full the Brawler enters an empowered Rampage state in which combat speeds up and some abilities transform.
During development the class was called Fistmaster, 권성 (Kwonseong) in Korean, and in the game data it is listed as fighter. If you have come across the name Vandal, it is the same class, not a tenth one.
This is where you need to watch the date. Until 1 July 2026 the game had eight classes: Templar, Gladiator, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric and Chanter. The publisher named those eight in a press release on 21 April 2026, two and a half months before Chapter 1 came out, and you will still find that number in material from that period.
So sources that say eight are not lying; they describe the game before this update, or the global version, which launches without the Brawler. The problem lies elsewhere: almost nobody states which date their number refers to. The global version’s roster is covered in our AION 2 class overview, and the ninth class itself in our Brawler article, including its abilities and how it differs from the class of the same name in the 2009 game.
A higher level cap and a stat overhaul
Chapter 1 raised the level cap from 45 to 50. Six out of seven international guides still list forty-five because they have not covered Chapter 1. If you see 45 somewhere, it describes the state before 1 July 2026.
From level 45 on, every level-up also grants one Advanced Stigma Shard, so the last level band feeds directly into the strength of your abilities. The fastest way through levels 45 to 50 is described in our leveling guide.
The second half of that change is less visible but matters more for the endgame: most stat caps were removed. The caps came off Daevanion stats, the base attributes (strength, agility, knowledge, health, accuracy, will) and the attack, defense, accuracy, evasion and critical hit lines.
In their place came four targeted caps and one new stat family:
- The new “Frontal” family: damage, resistance, attack, defense and critical hit from the front. It rewards fighting while facing the enemy.
- Damage Resistance now capped at 80%, the only stat that gained a cap instead of losing one.
- Movement speed capped at 150%, cooldown reduction at 60% and mana cost reduction at 60%.
- Usable critical chance rose from 50% to 80%.
The Stigma system goes up to level 25
The maximum Stigma skill level was extended from 20 to 25. The Stigma system lets you customize your character’s abilities through optional slots. From level 20 upward, leveling a skill consumes Advanced Stigma Shards, a rarer variant of the regular shards.
There are two sources of these shards: one for every character level-up from level 45 and one for bringing a Stigma skill to level 20. The second one can be earned back, because resetting Stigma is now free. It used to cost Kina, the in-game currency that players of the original AION know as Kinah.
A free reset changes how you play more than you might think: experimenting with your ability setup no longer costs anything. The whole system and the individual shard types are covered in our article on the Stigma system.
The new Morheim and Eltnen regions
Chapter 1 opened two regions for levels 45 to 50: Eltnen for the Elyos and Morheim for the Asmodians. Eltnen is a landscape of desert and ruins, Morheim a snowy wasteland with a volcano, hence the “sand and snow” in the update’s name.
You get there through a teleport portal that opens in your starting territory once you finish the main story campaign: in Verteron for the Elyos, in Altgard for the Asmodians. Using the portal requires meeting thresholds for character level, item level and Combat Power; the publisher has not released the exact numbers.
Inside both regions you will find sealed dungeons, fortified points, legion bases, field bosses and a new feature called Monoliths, pillars that activate when you collect items scattered around the region. The questline is also where the material for the new Pendant slot comes from.
Watch out for one mix-up: when you search for Morheim, the search engine serves a snippet saying the region was removed from the game. That belongs to the original AION from 2009. In AION 2, Chapter 1 did the opposite and added it. A complete breakdown of zones, quests and activities is in our guide to both regions.
New gear: Pendant and four Arcana slots
Chapter 1 added a brand-new gear slot, the Pendant. Rare and Heritage pieces drop from quests in Eltnen and Morheim, and higher tiers are obtained by upgrading with Kina, Breakthrough Stones and the newly unified material Draconic Essence.
On top of that, four Arcana slots were added: Key, Hourglass, Dice and Lantern. Only the first two are active so far, Key and Hourglass, and you get them from the new Transcendence dungeons. Dice and Lantern are already in the game, but they will only be unlocked by a later update.
Both additions belong to the same layer of the game: they widen the space you can invest time and resources into. How the whole gear upgrade chain works is described in our article on gear enchanting; where to get Kina is covered in our guide to the currency and economy.
Group content: two dungeons, bigger parties and a new Abyss layer
The largest part of Chapter 1 concerns group play, and it starts with party size, which grew from four to five players. A Force, a union of several groups, is capped at 20 players, Sanctuary is built for ten, Co-op Arena runs 5v5 and Battleground 10v10.
On this topic, Google still shows both four and eight players. Neither number is correct after Chapter 1.
| New content | Type | What we know |
|---|---|---|
| Citadel of the Fallen Daeva | Expedition | Exploration and Conquest variants, Normal and Hard difficulties |
| Abyssal Horn Den | Transcendence | Four phases; source of the Arcana Key and Hourglass slots |
| Sandstorm Temple | Battleground | Equalized stats for everyone; replaces the older equalized arena |
| Abyss surface layer | Open PvP zone | Entry only up to item level 4300 and 400,000 Combat Power, no artifacts, 300 players per faction |
Entry limits are gone for Expedition and Transcendence dungeons: your weekly count only goes down if you leave without claiming the reward. Entry tickets were replaced by Odyle Energy, which you only pay when you claim the reward at the end, and to qualify for it you must take at least 5% of the boss’s health or heal at least 20% of the party’s damage. Dungeon types and entry values are covered in our dungeon overview.
The new Abyss layer is the most interesting item in the whole update for PvP players, and also the one with the most confusion around its name. It exists in three different English translations: Chaotic Upper Reshanta, Reshanta Surface Layer and Abyss: Reshanta Surface. The name of the area itself is transcribed as Reshanta, Ereshranta and Ereshulanta.
The layer has none of the artifacts that the lower Abyss floors are built around, and its matchmaking also pairs players of the same faction. How the individual floors are put together and what you can actually get there is explained in our article on the Abyss and PvP zones.
Gear inheritance now with a 100% success rate
Since Chapter 1, Inheritance, which transfers properties from an old piece of gear to a new one, always succeeds. Before, there was a chance of failure. The cap on the number of attempts is also gone; for Advanced Inheritance only the maximum cost of 50 million Kina remains.
On top of that, starting 8 July 2026 the publisher retroactively returned materials lost in earlier failed attempts, tracked down through analysis of game logs.
That does not mean gear upgrading is risk-free. Inheritance is only one step in the chain; enchanting itself is guaranteed up to +10, and above that it can still fail, although the item is not destroyed. The difference between the two mechanics is covered in our article on gear enchanting.
The balance pass of 8 July 2026 is a separate event
This is what other sources get wrong most often: the full rebalance of all eight original classes did not come with Chapter 1. Chapter 1 was released on 1 July 2026, and the balance pass, postponed from 24 June, only arrived with the first weekly patch after it, on 8 July 2026.
Its most significant across-the-board change is a 30% reduction in PvP damage for all classes. In practice, that means longer fights and more value in healing and crowd control. Any gameplay impression, tier list or recommended build older than 8 July 2026 describes a different game balance.
| Class | Key change from 8 July 2026 |
|---|---|
| Templar | Change to the passive part of the Fury buff; key buffs now work with the Frontal family |
| Gladiator | Zikel’s Blessing no longer affects the whole group, personal damage buffed instead |
| Assassin | Only quality-of-life control tweaks, no nerfs |
| Ranger | Five minor skill adjustments |
| Sorcerer | Element Enhancement buffed from 10% to 20% |
| Spiritmaster | Two spells are now instant cast; significant PvE buff |
| Cleric | Reworked mobility: Condemnation and Earth Punishment can be cast while moving |
| Chanter | PvP buff |
On the meta debate surrounding it: since the Brawler arrived, part of the community claims the Gladiator is no longer the best DPS. That is an opinion, not the publisher’s position. It comes from a single community video from late June 2026 and concerns the Korean balance.
Two documented facts argue against it: one of the tier lists for the second season ranks the Gladiator first in PvP, and the 8 July patch actually buffed its personal damage. Both sides of the debate are covered in our Gladiator class guide.
What Chapter 1 did not bring, and why you are reading about it elsewhere
Community sites are passing around a list of features that are not in Chapter 1. The most repeated ones are sailing, fishing, housing on floating islands and a 100-player battle royale. None of them has any official basis, neither in the publisher’s press releases nor in the translation of the Korean patch notes.
The list comes from a single commercial site selling gaming services, and others copied it from there. The only true thing you can say about it is that one source lists it and no official material mentions those features.
Only one name from that whole group is documented: Outlands, which came up in an official announcement on 17 June 2026 together with content called Spacetime Rift: Domination. The publisher has not described what exactly Outlands is, and nobody other than that commercial site attached the “100-player battle royale” label to it.
So if you come across the sentence “Chapter 1 added fishing” somewhere, you know the author copied it without checking.
What comes next
Three things are documented. Both new regions are split in the game data into a Chapter 1 section and a Chapter 2 section, so a continuation is planned. The Dice and Lantern Arcana slots are waiting to be unlocked. And the names Elysium and Pandemonium were mentioned during a January 2026 livestream, although neither has arrived yet.
What is not documented is the schedule. The developers explicitly said they will set the pace based on data and feedback, not a fixed plan, so no specific date for the West exists today. The plans, their sources and how to read the pace of Korean releases are covered in our article on what NCSOFT has planned next. It is the companion piece to this overview: here is what has already been released, there is what is still coming.
Our sources and how we update this overview
This is a living article. With every major update, a new block is added at the top and older ones stay below it; patch history is not deleted. The date at the top changes with every factual edit, not only when a new chapter is added.
Where we were not sure, we say so openly. Nowhere in this text do we present data from the Korean and Taiwanese version as data about the global version. That is the most common mistake you will find in AION 2 coverage.

FAQ
Chapter 1. Lands of Sand and Snow is the first major content update for AION 2, released on 1 July 2026 on the Korean and Taiwanese servers. It added the Brawler class, raised the level cap from 45 to 50, extended Stigma progression to level 25 and opened the Morheim and Eltnen regions. In the community it also appears under the name “Land of Sand and Frost”.
That is not confirmed. NCSOFT has not said anywhere what content the global servers will launch with, and the pre-launch FAQ on Steam does not address the topic. The developers only said the global version launches with accumulated content that they will release based on data and feedback. It will become clear on 30 September 2026 when early access opens.
The Korean and Taiwanese version has nine: Templar, Gladiator, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric, Chanter and Brawler. Eight of them have been in the game since its launch in November 2025, and the ninth, the Brawler, was added by Chapter 1 on 1 July 2026. The global version launches with the eight original classes; the Brawler will come to it later.
Yes, on the Korean and Taiwanese version. Chapter 1 raised the level cap from 45 to 50 and also extended the maximum Stigma skill level from 20 to 25. The publisher has not given any number for the global version. Most international guides still say 45 because they have not covered Chapter 1.
No, none of that has any official basis. The list comes from a single commercial site, and others copied it without checking. It does not appear in the publisher’s official announcements or in the translation of the Korean patch notes. Only one name from that group is documented, Outlands, and even there the publisher has not described what it is.
None yet. The European and American servers only open on 30 September 2026 in early access and on 5 October 2026 for everyone. Until then, the latest released content for the game is Chapter 1 from 1 July 2026 on the Korean and Taiwanese version, followed by the balance pass of 8 July 2026.
No, they are two separate events. Chapter 1 was released on 1 July 2026, and the full rebalance of all eight original classes only came with the first weekly patch after it, on 8 July. Its main change is a flat 30% reduction in PvP damage. Many other sources merge the two events into one.
For now, Chapter 1 remains a matter for the Korean and Taiwanese servers, and this overview will keep changing. After 30 September and again after 5 October 2026 we will go through it and add what is actually in the global client, and each further chapter will get a new block here. All our other guides for the game are in the AION 2 guides section. Information verified as of 15 August 2026.
