Ator, Archon of Antumbra, is a hidden endgame boss in the Cloister of Ruination, and he’s built like a wall. His defense is so high that regular hits barely do anything, while his attacks drop Kliff in a single blow. The fight becomes winnable the moment you stop chipping at his health and start breaking his stun meter.
The one thing the fight comes down to
Taking health off Ator is painfully slow because his physical defense is enormous. Real progress comes from stun meter damage:
- Finish your combos. Light, heavy or force punch chains; the last hit is what counts.
- The finisher of a complete combo takes a big chunk out of the stun meter. If you interrupt the combo, you lose exactly that effect.
- When the stun meter is empty, Ator is left vulnerable. That’s your window for a critical hit that finally takes off some health.
Everything else in this fight is about surviving long enough for those windows to come.
Three attacks and how to read them
| Attack | Tell | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Golden hammer | summons a hammer and raises it above his head | a spinning jump that lands exactly where you’re standing; wait for the spin in the air and dodge as he lands |
| Orb barrage | the orbs around him start to glow | dodge, don’t block. Every orb counts as a full hit, and a blocked barrage drains your stamina instantly |
| Field after a hammer strike | after the hammer hits the ground | don’t step on the hammer or near it; the residual energy drains health until it fades |
His pattern doesn’t change throughout the fight. That predictability is his only weakness, and it’s enough.
The darkness phase
Like most major bosses in Pywel, Ator has an ultimate phase in which he’s immune to physical damage. It starts with an aggressive wave of orbs, and then the arena is plunged into darkness.
- Follow the glow. In the dark, the glowing hammer is your only point of reference. Ator slams the ground three to four times in a row.
- Don’t attack. The damage won’t go through, and you’ll only expose yourself to a hit that kills you outright.
- Get behind him. Use the hammer’s glow to find him and roll behind him. Running to the edge of the arena doesn’t work, because the hammer has practically unlimited reach.
What to bring
- Instant Revive, as many as you have. This is an endurance fight, and you’ll go down at least once.
- Plenty of food to restore health and Spirit between phases.
- High stamina. Dodging is your entire defense here, so check out raising stamina above level 10.
- Patience. One greedy extra hit is the difference between a critical window and a loading screen.
Rewards
- Darkbringer: a legendary weapon with high stats and endgame perks.
- Ator’s Will set: helmet, armor, gloves and leather boots; the best survival set in the late game.
- Seal of Pitch-Black Darkness
- Abyss Artifact ×1
FAQ
In the Cloister of Ruination. He’s a hidden boss who only becomes accessible in the endgame after specific story triggers, so you won’t run into him on your first playthrough.
His physical defense is deliberately enormous. Empty his stun meter with completed combos and use the vulnerability window for a critical hit.
They can, but it isn’t worth it. Each orb uses up a large part of your stamina, and after a blocked barrage you’re left defenseless. Dodging keeps your stamina available for a counterattack.
Instant Revive gets you back up, but the phase continues until Ator finishes his hammer strikes. Staying behind him is a better plan than counting on a revive.
Darkbringer has higher base stats and unique endgame perks. Fated Shadow is still excellent for the mid and late game, though, so keep it until Ator actually goes down.
