The AION 2 roadmap is an overview of the content NCSOFT is still preparing for the game, and for the global version it is, as of 15 August 2026, largely a blank space. The global version opens on 30 September 2026 in early access for Founder’s Pack owners and free for everyone on 5 October 2026, on PC only. The Korean and Taiwanese versions, meanwhile, have been live since 19 November 2025 and have received more than thirty-five updates.
This is the most important sentence in the whole article: NCSOFT has not published any public roadmap for the global version. In an interview from 15 June 2026, the developers said the global servers will launch with a “backlog” of already finished content and that they will release it based on data and player feedback, not on a fixed schedule. So no dates or release order exist, and anyone who lists them has made them up.
That is why an honest answer looks different from what you might expect: you can describe exactly what already exists in the Korean and Taiwanese versions and point out which parts of it may come to the global version. That is what you will find below. Every item shows how certain it is, who said it and when.
Two clarifications before we start. Everything below concerns AION 2, not the original AION from 2009. Names like Abyss, Daeva or Morheim are the same in both games, but the content behind them is not. And if you are looking for a “roadmap” in the sense of a player’s progression after reaching max level, you need the leveling guide and the dungeon overview, not this article.
The key points in five bullets
- Global version: early access on 30 September 2026, full free-to-play launch on 5 October 2026, PC only. No consoles, no mobile client.
- Korea and Taiwan have been playing since 19 November 2025 and have received more than thirty-five updates, including a big summer chapter.
- NCSOFT has not said anywhere what content the global version will launch with. This is not a detail nobody managed to find; the publisher simply has not released it yet.
- The most solid roadmap items are the unfinished parts of the new regions, two Arcana slots that do not work yet, and two modes that were announced but not released.
- Claims about fishing, sailing on ships and housing on floating islands have no official source.
How to read this roadmap
Every item below has a label that tells you how much you can rely on it. Without that, the list would make no sense. Mixing an official announcement for the global version with a Korean patch note and a claim from a commercial website creates an impression of certainty that is not there.
- CONFIRMED FOR THE GLOBAL VERSION: NCSOFT said it in material aimed directly at the global version, on Steam, in its newsroom or in a press release.
- ANNOUNCED FOR KR/TW: NCSOFT announced or released it on the Korean and Taiwanese servers. It does not automatically apply to the global version.
- UNCONFIRMED SPECULATION: it circulates on community and commercial websites but is not backed by any official source.
Roadmaps of big online games are routinely missed, and delays of several months are normal. That is exactly why it helps to know whether an item comes from a publisher’s press release or a livestream transcript. With the first, the date slips; with the second, the whole item can disappear. Where AION 2 stands now: two versions, two timelines
AION 2 exists in two parallel versions that are not connected in any way. The Korean and Taiwanese version has been running since 19 November 2025. The global one opens on 30 September 2026 in early access and on 5 October 2026 for everyone. Both dates are covered in detail in the article on the release date.
The first thing that confuses readers is how updates are numbered. NCSOFT first numbered its big updates as seasons: Season 2 came out on 21 January 2026 and Season 3 on 8 April 2026. From July 2026 it switched to the “Chapter” label. So Chapter 1 came out after Season 3; it is not a continuation of the same numbering but a new series.
The second confusing thing is that the same update has two English names. Officially it is called Chapter 1. Lands of Sand and Snow, which is the name NCSOFT’s press release gave it. Fan sites and community translations use the form Land of Sand and Frost. It is one and the same update; below we use the official name.
Progress does not carry over between the versions. The servers are not linked, and no plan to transfer characters from the Taiwanese version to the global one has been announced. That does not mean NCSOFT has ruled it out, though. It just has not talked about it yet.
Don’t want to wait until October? A separate guide to playing on the Taiwanese server explains how to get onto it right now, and our first impressions from playing sum up what it is like there.
How much extra content Korea has, and what it means for the global version
There are ten and a half months between the Korean launch and the full global launch. That is not an estimate but the plain difference between two dates: 19 November 2025 and 5 October 2026. During that time, the Korean and Taiwanese servers received a series of updates: new zones, new dungeons, new systems and a new playable class.
The pace is also unusually fast. NCSOFT patches the Korean version practically every Wednesday; from launch to the end of July 2026, more than thirty-five separate update notes are documented. The following table picks out only the milestones that added something major.
| Date (KR/TW) | Milestone | What it brought |
|---|---|---|
| 19 November 2025 | Game launch | base game, Abyss, flying, eight playable classes |
| 10–31 December 2025 | Wave of quality-of-life improvements | cross-server marketplace, harder expedition variants, Field Boss Raid |
| 21 January 2026 | Season 2 | Inheritance system, Dying Dramata’s Nest, server-wide wardrobe |
| 25 March 2026 | Big systems patch | Kina currency split, five Stigma slots, Perfect Block |
| 8 April 2026 | Season 3 | Hall of Illusion, Advanced Inheritance, reworked Abyss |
| 27 May 2026 | Chalice of Muspel | hardest PvE content, Brooch slot, wing enhancement |
| 1 July 2026 | Chapter 1. Lands of Sand and Snow | new fist-fighting class, higher level cap, Eltnen and Morheim regions, Pendant slot |
| 15 July 2026 | Vakron Sky Island | new zone built around aerial combat, Abyss Rift for 300 players per side |
| 29 July 2026 | Last verified patch | fist class adjustments, character switching, automatic loot pickup for pets |
The question you came here for is: will the global version launch with this content? The answer is unpleasant, but it is the only true one: NCSOFT has not said. The pre-launch FAQ from the developer account on Steam, which is the main official source for the global version, covers languages, server regions, platforms, controller support and monetization. The content of the launch build is not even mentioned.
Other sites that follow the topic confirm this as well: twice, in two different articles, they state that the publisher has not officially confirmed what content the global launch will include. Nobody who claims to know it today can actually know it.
The community discusses two scenarios, and both are realistic, but both are guesses, not information:
- UNCONFIRMED SPECULATION: the global version launches with content close to the current Korean build, including the higher level cap and the new regions.
- UNCONFIRMED SPECULATION: the global version launches with a compressed version of the content and catches up on the rest at a faster pace.
The interview from 15 June 2026 points more toward the second scenario, since the developers talk about releasing the accumulated content based on data and feedback. But even that is not confirmation. It describes a method, not a list of dates.
The Chapter 1 patch notes summary breaks down, item by item, exactly what the summer update changed in the Korean and Taiwanese versions. The new regions have their own guide to Morheim and Eltnen, and the new fist-fighting class is covered in the article on the Brawler.
What is confirmed for the global version
These are the items NCSOFT has stated explicitly about the global version. There are fewer of them than you might expect, and none of them concern game content. All of them describe the framework in which the game will launch.
| Item | Source | When it was said |
|---|---|---|
| Early access on 30 September 2026, full free-to-play launch on 5 October 2026 | official Steam page of the game, including the pack subpages | verified 31 July 2026 |
| PC only: Steam and the PURPLE launcher | developer account in the official Steam discussions | April 2026, last edited 8 July 2026 |
| Server regions: North America, South America, Europe, Asia | NCSOFT, Summer Game Fest | 5 June 2026 |
| Ten supported languages | official Steam page of the game | verified 31 July 2026 |
| Two waves of servers during early access; the Abyss matches only early access servers with each other | official NCSOFT announcement | 17 July 2026 |
| The cross-server marketplace does not open even at the full launch | official NCSOFT announcement | 17 July 2026 |
| A character transfer service between global servers has been promised | official NCSOFT announcement | 17 July 2026 |
| Full controller support is not confirmed; the publisher is “still evaluating” it | developer account in the official Steam discussions | April 2026 |
Two of these items are worth expanding on, because they directly affect the decision to buy. The five-day head start from the Founder’s Pack takes place on a separate wave of servers with its own marketplace and its own PvP matchmaking. The mechanics and the three price tiers are covered in the article on early access and Founder’s Packs. The fact that the global version runs exclusively on PC is covered in the platforms overview.
Monetization is confirmed in outline, not in detail. The game is free-to-play, and alongside it there is an optional paid membership that unlocks the marketplace and the currency exchange. The article on price and the free-to-play model covers what exactly you get for it and where the limits of the cash shop lie. It is a separate topic with its own open questions.
And one more point worth stating up front if language support matters to you: the global version launches with ten languages, according to the game’s official Steam page.
What NCSOFT announced for the Korean version, and what may come next
These are the most solid items on the entire roadmap. All of them have an official source, and all of them concern content that has not come out even in the Korean version. Nothing follows from them automatically for the global version, but they are the best available outline of where the game is heading.
| Item | Certainty level | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| Chapter 2 sections in the Eltnen and Morheim regions | ANNOUNCED FOR KR/TW | official Korean update note, 1 July 2026 |
| Dice and Lantern Arcana slots | ANNOUNCED FOR KR/TW | official Korean update note, 1 July 2026 |
| Outlands mode | ANNOUNCED FOR KR/TW, not released | NCSOFT press release, 17 June 2026 |
| Spacetime Rift: Domination mode | ANNOUNCED FOR KR/TW, not released | NCSOFT press release, 17 June 2026 |
| Four announced but unreleased instances | ANNOUNCED FOR KR/TW, not released | NCSOFT press release, 17 June 2026 |
| Elysium and Pandemonium locations | ANNOUNCED FOR KR/TW | Korean livestream, January 2026 |
| Another completely new playable class | ANNOUNCED FOR KR/TW | Korean livestream, January 2026 |
| Another level cap increase | ANNOUNCED FOR KR/TW, no date | Korean livestream, January 2026 |
The new regions are only half finished
In the game data, Eltnen and Morheim are split into a Chapter 1 section and a Chapter 2 section, which unlock one after the other. The second half of both maps is therefore neither a community wish nor speculation. It is a documented fact about how the region is structured. Only the date is missing. The article on both regions describes what the open half contains.
Two Arcana slots do not work yet
The summer update added four new Arcana slots, which are card slots that give your character bonuses. Only two of them work so far, Key and Hourglass. The official update note explicitly states that the remaining two, Dice and Lantern, will come in a later update. It is the most concrete roadmap item we have today.
Outlands and Spacetime Rift: Domination, announced but not delivered
This is the most interesting point on the whole roadmap, and you won’t find it anywhere else. It comes from comparing two official NCSOFT press releases published two weeks apart.
The release from 17 June 2026 describes what was being prepared for the summer update and names, among other things, the Outlands and Spacetime Rift: Domination modes. The release from 1 July 2026, which sums up what the update actually delivered, mentions neither of them. They are not in the full translation of the Korean patch notes either.
The conclusion is simple: these are officially named modes that NCSOFT announced and had not released as of the last verified patch. This is exactly what a real roadmap item looks like, unlike most of what gets said about AION 2.
Four instances that were supposed to be in the summer update
The same June press release leaves four more undelivered items. They are the Consumed Deus Research Base expedition, the Expedition: Ordeal mode with player-adjustable difficulty, the multi-stage dungeon Noiran’s Hidden Legacy and the most demanding ten-player content, Snowfield of Sorrow. None of them appear in the update note from 1 July. The dungeon overview explains how the different instance types in AION 2 work.
Elysium, Pandemonium and another class
During the Korean New Year livestream in January 2026, the developers named four locations from the original AION that they want to bring to AION 2: Eltnen, Morheim, Elysium and Pandemonium. The first two arrived in the summer update. That leaves Elysium and Pandemonium as the most likely next big locations.
What exactly they will be, however, NCSOFT has not said. In the original game they were the capital cities of the two factions, which makes it tempting to assume they will be cities here too, but that is not confirmed. And information from a livestream carries less weight than a press release.
At the same livestream, the developers confirmed they are planning another completely new playable class and explicitly ruled out a bard and a sniper. The fist-fighting class from the summer update filled that role. Whether that was the class they meant, or whether one more is coming, is not clear. The class overview covers which classes are available in the global version.
The last item from the livestream is a level cap increase. That was delivered in the summer update in the Korean version. The developers mentioned another increase but gave no date. For where the flying PvP zone that most of these plans are tied to is heading, see the article on the Abyss.
What people say about the roadmap that is not confirmed
Several claims circulate around AION 2 that look like roadmap items but are not backed by any official source. These are not minor details. They involve entire game systems that some players buy the Founder’s Pack for. That is why they get their own section.
Fishing, sailing on ships and housing on floating islands. This trio shows up on commercial gaming websites as part of the summer update. It is not in either of NCSOFT’s two official press releases, not in the translation of the Korean patch notes and not in independent summaries. There is no official basis for any of these three claims. On top of that, NCSOFT has never confirmed or ruled out housing.
“The 100-player Outland battle royale.” This one is more subtle and worth separating carefully. The name Outlands really does appear in the official press release from 17 June 2026. But NCSOFT gave neither a player count nor a genre for it. The description “a hundred players, battle royale” was added by a commercial website; it is not information from the publisher.
“Occupation Battle.” This is probably a loose translation of the mode NCSOFT officially calls Spacetime Rift: Domination. However, that is our guess based on the matching meaning, not a documented identity, and it stays here as a guess.
The last note is general, but for this topic it is key: check when a source was last updated. One of the most frequently cited wikis on AION 2 still says to this day the global version will come out in mid-2026. It was last updated on 9 January 2026.
Can you trust NCSOFT’s roadmap?
The best predictor of the future is a documented track record. AION 2 has nine months of live service behind it, so that record can be assessed. The answer: mostly yes, but not always and not precisely.
Where NCSOFT kept its word. The New Year livestream in January 2026 included a dated roadmap for January and February with specific days for individual items. The main milestones held: Season 2 really did come out on 21 January 2026. The promised new class, the higher level cap and the regions inspired by Eltnen and Morheim all arrived on 1 July 2026.
Where it did not. A big balance patch for all classes was pushed from 24 June to 1 July 2026; according to the official update note, the reason was to protect a leaderboard competition that was running at the time. The Outlands and Spacetime Rift: Domination modes were announced as part of the summer update and had not arrived at all as of the last verified patch. Domination finally arrived with the patch from 2 September 2026, which opened the battle for thirty strongholds in Verteron and Altgard.
More interesting than meeting deadlines, though, is how NCSOFT reacted to a crisis. At the Korean launch, the cash shop briefly sold items with a direct combat effect. The publisher’s shares fell by more than fifteen percent, the items were pulled within fifteen hours and the company publicly apologized. A wave of measures against bots and macros followed. The article on the cash shop and monetization goes into more detail.
There is also a commercial context that means more for the roadmap than any promise. According to NCSOFT’s own press release from 6 January 2026, the game passed cumulative revenue of one hundred billion Korean won within forty-six days of launch and won the “Game of G-STAR 2025” award. For players, that means just one thing: the game has the budget to keep developing.
And an honest caveat to finish: the track record from the Korean servers does not guarantee the same pace on the global ones. The global version is run by the publisher’s American branch, which does not have to copy the Korean release cycle. The June 2026 interview actually points directly to this: it talks about releasing content based on data, not about adopting a ready-made calendar.
What to follow so you know before everyone else
All the important information about the global version comes from five places. If you follow them, you will learn about news the moment it appears, not when someone else rewrites it.
- The game’s official Steam discussions, especially the announcements section and posts from the developer account with the developer tag. The pre-launch FAQ is edited continuously, and it is the fastest official channel for the global version.
- The publisher’s newsroom at nc.com and about.ncsoft.com. Press releases usually come out a few days before the patch itself.
- Korean update notes on the official aion2.plaync.com portal. They come out practically every Wednesday and are in Korean.
- The publisher’s newsletter, which was used for pre-registration and its rewards.
- Korean livestreams, especially the New Year and summer ones. Historically they have been the biggest one-off source of roadmap information, and at the same time the least binding one.
How we keep this overview up to date
This article is not updated when a patch comes out but when NCSOFT announces something. Items are not added to it so much as moved: whatever the publisher confirms for the global version moves to the confirmed section; whatever comes out in the Korean version leaves the roadmap and goes into the patch notes summary.
We do not delete debunked speculation. It stays in the section on unconfirmed claims, together with an explanation of why it does not hold, because those items show best how reliable roadmaps are. The next big review will take place in the week before 30 September 2026, when the publisher will be communicating most intensively.

FAQ
NCSOFT has not officially announced it yet. The pre-launch FAQ on Steam covers languages, server regions and platforms, but does not mention the content of the launch build at all. Korea and Taiwan have been playing since 19 November 2025 and have received more than thirty-five updates. Whether the global version gets everything at once or will catch up on content later, nobody knows yet.
No. There is no public content schedule for the global version. In an interview from 15 June 2026, the developers said the global servers will launch with a backlog of finished content that they will release based on data and player feedback, not on a fixed plan. So nobody knows specific dates or the order of the content.
NCSOFT has not announced a date. Chapter 2 is not speculation, though: the official Korean update note from 1 July 2026 states that the Eltnen and Morheim regions are split into a Chapter 1 section and a Chapter 2 section, which unlock one after the other. The structure is already in the game, only the date is missing, and for now it applies to the Korean and Taiwanese versions.
There is no official source for any of these claims. They appear on commercial gaming websites, but they are not in NCSOFT’s press releases, the official Korean patch notes or independent update summaries. In the case of AION 2, housing remains unconfirmed either way: the publisher has never promised it or ruled it out.
Outlands is a name NCSOFT listed among upcoming content in its press release from 17 June 2026, without describing it in any way. It no longer appears in the press release from 1 July 2026, which sums up the content that was actually released. The claim that it is a 100-player battle royale comes from a commercial website, not from the publisher. The article on who is behind AION 2 explains who inside the company decides the game’s content priorities.
Mostly yes, but not always. The dated roadmap from January 2026 was delivered on its main points, and the promised new class, the higher level cap and the new regions arrived on 1 July 2026. At the same time, the balance patch was pushed from 24 June to 1 July, and two announced modes have not arrived at all yet.
Base that decision on what is confirmed, not on what is expected. All three tiers of the pack give the same five-day head start and differ only in cosmetics; the game itself is free. The head start also takes place on a separate wave of servers. A detailed breakdown is in the article on Founder’s Packs.
The roadmap for the global version of AION 2 remains open: the publisher has so far published neither the content of the launch build nor an update plan. That is why we will go through this overview again before 30 September and after 5 October 2026 and add whatever gets confirmed in the meantime. Everything else about the game is in the AION 2 section. Information verified as of 7 August 2026.
